Eric Stewart made the rounds while visiting here in the Keweenaw and we go out to Jacobsville with him today. That's the Finnish Lutheran Church out there, which is designated with a Michigan Historical Marker, explaining the historical importance of this little church in Jacobsville. It was built in 1888 and is well preserved, including still intact furnishings inside, kerosene lamps and even the wood stove that kept the services warm in the colder months. I guess you could say that walking through these doors, you'll be stepping back in time.

Also while in Jacobsville, Eric snapped a photo on the breakwall of the lighthouse, with the seagulls being rousted by his wife, who almost looks like she's going to take off flying, too. Nice shot.

The third photo, is a sign on the lighthouse that Eric spotted. It instructs boaters how to "key" their microphone on the VHF radio, so as to activate the fog signal. I guess my question about that would be... if it's foggy enough to need the foghorn sounding, wouldn't the visibility of seeing this sign be obscured, too? Or maybe this is just something that boaters are aware of and know how to operate? Inquiring minds, want to know...

Beautiful pictures! I'd like to take that lighthouse walk. Just finished the latest Steve Hamilton book, set in the UP, and there was something in there about what pilots can do to activate runway lights when they aren't on at some of the more obscure landing strips. Kinda reminds me of the last pic above.

Nice pictures. I've spent some fun times out by that breakwall.

Inquiring minds indeed.........

Another photo-inspired song came to mind...."There's a little brown church in the wildwood." (author unknown) Even though this is a beautiful little white one. :)

Every morning I check the images on pasty.com. It is my relaxing moment of zen. It helps to clear my mind and prepare for the day with images that remind me why I like visiting the Copper Country. Thank you.

That little church is just beautiful....I peeked inside one time. And LOVE White City out there...we grew up spending time there. Fantastic...anywhere on Superior...it's just Sacred!

Nice pix, I wonder if Ms Stewart every saw "The Birds" :-)

Is this lighthouse hard to get to? It looks rather remote on Google maps.

A church and lighthouse. A nice relation between the 2. The light (Christ's Light) shines in the darkness.

Amen, Thomas. Beautiful thought!

no the lighthouse is not hard to get to! And it is well worth the trip to spend a day driving around any place in the copper country. If that church and lighthouse could only talk, there are stories...
