Today's photos came to me via Charlie - Uncle Charlie that is - since the photos were taken by his niece, Emily Cobb. She managed to capture the essence of Lake Superior and the beauty of the Keweenaw sky, all in one. This past August has given us a variety of weather, from hot and humid, to windy and wet, but the skies over the Keweenaw have held a beauty all their own, that Emily seems to have effortlessly captured. Blue sky, dotted with puffy clouds, that golden hue from the sun beginning to go down and then a double rainbow to complete the set. August Keweenaw sky... it doesn't get much better than this.

Ooooooooh, can just feel that wind off the lake!

Great shots to start the day ~ thanks so much!!

Beautiful pics, looking forward to my business trip to the U.P./Keweenaw the week of Sept. 10th.

You're a lucky man, UC!

It would be great to have a profession where you could visit places like this as a part of your job!

Absolutely beautiful pictures!! Brings me back to a couple of weeks ago. That lake never fails to mesmerize me!

During an evening walk yesterday, we had that same sky here in Colorado, including a piece of the rainbow. Sadly, no Big Lake though.

What beauty! The first one looks like it could be a travel poster. The colors are fantastic. I agree with jbuck, you can almost feel the wind. Thanks, Emily and Uncle Charlie!

It certainly is, jbuck... ;-)

The light in the first two shots is incredible, especially the first one. They have a fall-like feel to them; the air looks clearer and the low angle of the sun when these were taken accentuates the feeling. Thanks Emily!

Superior pictures today! Beautiful scenery, beautiful colors!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, August 30, 2012 - 02:50 pm:

OK, now i'm jealous of UC, Capt Paul AND Dr. Nat!!

Count your blessings!

I have that profession, it's called retirement.

LOL JBuck, Care to ride shotgun? It is nice, this UPcoming trip will take me to the Soo, Marquette, Baraga, Hancock, Calumet, Escanaba, and St. Ignace (and places in between where one can also gamble). A lot of windshield time, good thing I'll have the CD's blasting. I'm looking forward to seeing God's Country again, and maybe a dip in Superior off the black rocks in Marquette!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Thursday, August 30, 2012 - 08:31 pm:

Sounds like an outstanding trip! Can't we figure
out an excuse to get over to the Porkies too?
Windshield time is half the fun in da UP!

Look at the waves on that inland sea! Just
beautiful! I agree, that first one looks like a
travel poster. Thanks so much, Emily and Uncle
Charlie. :)
