I don't know about you, but Melanie Hakala Rossi sure has my mouth watering with the colorful berries here today. Her blueberry and blackberry shots, look like you could reach right through the screen, pick one off the branch and pop it in your mouth. YUM! And what a great assortment she has when you add in the thimbleberries and the wild raspberries, too.

The Keweenaw is known for having four seasons, but I think folks have been counting this wrong for years now, there are really five seasons here UP North...Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer and Berry season. The latter is my favorite!

These fine photos are delicious (the fruit that is).

BEAUTIFUL!!!

Lotsa berries=Lotsa snow....

Yummy! I love all berries but blackberries are my favorite, which are plentiful in the South. My mama's Blackberry cobbler! :9

Beautiful pictures...cannot beat thimbleberry jam
or wild strawberry for my tastes. Thanks, Melanie.

Wow! Nice finger-berries...a fashion statement?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 - 11:10 am:

Alex, Melanie should've drawn faces on her fingers, then she'd have 5 members of the 'Red Hat Society'....but then she'd have to add purple dresses.;)

Boy do those look awesome!! We picked blueberries yesterday out at Rice Lake. They're few and far between, but they sure taste good. I'm seeing blueberry pancakes for breakfast tomorrow!!! And it's hard to believe that the blackberries are ripe already. They're never ripe when we're here in August but my mom has some right down the hill in her back yard and my hubby has been filling up our container to make jelly when we get back home. Awesome!!!

Today's subjects make your mouth water!

Related to an earlier picture of the Courthouse, the millage for Keweenaw County Jail Proposal (Proposal A), passed. So the building will continue to be restored.

Oh, to revisit childhood to pick bloobs and razzes with Dad and eat Mom's pies and jam!

Ok, I'll wipe the drool off of my keyboard now...There's nothing like the taste of wild berries. I remember my family picking blackberies to make a pie. Our dog, an Alaskan Malamute, was in the berry patch too; although she was picking berries, hers went right into her mouth.

Speaking of picking berries, the only problem down south is that while picking blackberries you have to contend with 'chiggers'! :(

Great pics! Couldn't agree more Mary!

After reading this article, maybe the Saskatoon berry will be to the Grand Traverse Region what the Thimbleberry is to the Keweenaw Peninsula:
