Donna MacIntosh was outdoors in the Baraga sunshine, snapping away, all around her crop of sunflowers. I can certainly see how they got the name sunflower, for two reasons. One being that the look like the sun with the center of the flower and then the petals like rays of sunshine, surrounding it. My second theory on the name choice, is because of the way these big yellow flowers brighten up when the sun is shining on them. You can see that in Donna's photos. Looks like someone was hungry in Donna's third photo... my guess is a deer.

Hi
This is from a movie, so I'm not sure it's true, but I heard the head of the sunflower moves so that it is always pointing at the sun. Another good reason for the name...

The sunflower provides a good representation of a Fibonacci series.
