Janet Dabbs sent in these photos of a past circle tour that her family made here in the Keweenaw. At that time they started out at McLain Park, then headed up to Copper Harbor, where she took a photo of everyone at the Brockway lookout over the Harbor. They're all smiles, enjoying the scenery and being all together. Janet identified the family members in the top photo, starting on the left, as: Her brother Bill, sister Nancy, nephew Sean, Brother Jim and daughter Shae. They continued on and stopped along the shores of Lake Superior to gather on that log for a photo op next.

Finally they arrived at the Quincy lookout, over Hancock, where they all noticed they had cell phone service at just about the same time. Janet said that none of them realized they were all checking for cell service at the same time, until she started taking pictures of them. Janet added: "City folk, you know" :->

The message Janet wanted to give to us all with these photos of her family together like this, touring in the U.P., is that we should enjoy those we love while we can because they won't be here forever. Her brother Jim (the guy on the right in the top photo), passed away shortly after this visit UP North. Thanks for sharing your times together with us all, Janet... RIP Jim.

Yes indeed, take Janet's advice to heart! Make everyday as if it's your last. Live, love, and be happy!

I echo what Janie said! I think of that every day. A friend of mine lost her 20 year old son suddenly this week. You just never know :-(

Thanks for sharing, Janet!

Good advice, Janie, I agree wholeheartedly. Thank you, Janet, for sharing your family's tour! Condolences on the loss of your brother.

Sounds and looks like it was a great, memory-building trip, Janet. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Sounds like a wonderful trip ~ and how great to have
done so, considering the loss of Jim. Wonderful
memories for a life time! When there are so many
families who can't seem to get along, this is great
to see.

Thanks for the pictures and story, Janet!

Now, i'd be one of those saying "darn! we're back
where the cellphones work again!" Being out of
range is a true blessing!

Long ago, before there was good cell phone service in Lake Linden, I had to go down to Dollar Bay and stand under a utility pole in front of the fire station to call home, downstate, to Bill. Now, how I discovered, if you will, THAT spot, I do not remember. It was funny. Everytime I told my mom was taking her car, she said say 'hi' to Bill for me.

That's funny, Mickill, for a minute there I thought you were going to say you had to stand on one foot and cross your eyes to use your cell.;)

Thanks for all the kind words. I did not see this was online until yesterday as I was up in the UP. My family took the same trip around Copper Harbor this year as a "Memorial Motorcycle Ride" for my brother Jim. The last one was actually a memorial ride for my mom who passed last year.

It was perfect weather, gorgeous sights, and a blessed time with my family again.

I really, really, really want to move up there. I am not bothered by the snow. I just am concerned that I would never see my grown kids since it's so far away and I think family is the MOST important thing......

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 08:59 am:

That's one of the biggest reasons that I don't move up there too, Lucylu. I have grown kids and a bunch of grandchildren here. I could not leave them. I do not like the weather much either, but the kids are what stops me.
