Yes, we had an attempted return to winter here UP North this week. These photos were snapped on Monday, by the Bridge Cam, housed in Daryl Laitila's Hancock home), A View from the Field, housed in Sharon Smith's Copper Harbor home) and again this morning the Bridge Cam. The fourth is by Bob Gilreath, looking out at the summer deck furniture all covered in a blanket of white. A few good things about snow falls this time of year, is that we know they won't last long, they help to add needed moisture to the thirsty ground and they help to alleviate some of the wild fire danger. So there are positive points to getting a covering of snow this time of year. Today it can't seem to decide whether it will be snow or rain.

I love any picture of that bridge!! Nice shots!

Hi
Yoopers or trolls, we are all at risk for spring blizzards...in this case a spring snow dusting. We had one (dusting) downstate last week.

What's up with this snow? I was ready to take a trip UP north this weekend, but now I don't know :-(

By Michael Mehrman (Bootjack) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 09:07 am:

Good Morning All,

I would to express how much I enjoyed the Shoebox Memories from last Sunday 4/15.
After reading about the fate of Mr. Banford, I found out there were nine people aboard the Titanic that were heading for Houghton County, Michigan. What a small world we live in after all.
I enjoy Pasty.com, I check it daily, download photo's to my screensaver, and enjoy the beautiful photo's the pasty camers shoot everyday.
Thank you, Mike

By Michael Mehrman (Bootjack) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 09:10 am:

My mistake, Mr. Banfield. Sorry if I offended anyone.

By Lisa R. (Sisugirl) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 10:13 am:

Good morning all! Question about the first picture. The timestamp says 20:15. Was that really 8:15 at night? It's still so light out, even with the nasty weather, that I was wondering if that could be right. Here in Florida, the sun sets at about 7:50 right now, and there's still a bit of glow for awhile after that, but we're so much further south, I'm not sure it's the same up there right now.

Looks from my weather app like you've got mostly sunny weather coming your way by Friday and over the weekend up there. Still forecast to be nippy, in the 40s, though. Not sure Alex will find such chilly temps fun, but at least it shouldn't be snowing (or raining)!

Happy Wednesday, all!

By Lisa R. (Sisugirl) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 10:16 am:

Never mind. My weather app up there also says that the sun sets at 8:48 up there tonight! I keep forgetting that the sun sets much later up there as summer approaches. It's been quite a while since I've been up there in the spring.

Alex...Just put your tire chains on the Wing and go! lol

By Bob Williams (Wabbit) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 11:10 am:

Lisa R., They are almost as far west as Chicago which makes it like they are in the central time zone. So the sun sets a little later.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 11:47 am:

I rode home in the snow one time with the bike. Only had to go a four/five miles. There was about 4" on the freeway. Once you get going they'll tend to stay upright. It helped that the beginning of the trip started when the bar was closing.

By D. A. (Midwested) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 12:26 pm:

It looks like Bob is already "decked out" and ready for Christmas. He just needs to flip the switch.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 12:38 pm:

Speaking of "Decked out" Bobs' deck looks remarkeably like the setting I saw a few years ago where the snowmen had the drinking/card party. Anyone else remember seeing that event

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 01:52 pm:

Sounds like a plan Bob, especially with Michigan's new no-helmet law. If I fall, the snow will cushion my cranium :-)

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 - 03:03 pm:

A little wintry Spring. As it is said, we chose to live in northern Michigan.

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 07:47 am:

Lesson for today.
Michigan physically belongs in the Central Time Zone but in days of yore the mining officials and stock brokers wanted to be on New York and Boston time so a concession was made and we are still in the wrong time zone. The fireworks here on Lake Erie take place about 10:45 on July 3 every year.

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 08:02 am:

Hi
Eddyfitz, the long daylight and twighlight, which are more pronouced up north, are a part of summer to me...like the way the sun sets out near the Mackinac Bridge on the 4th of July but has moved inland by Labor Day, looking from our beach near Cheboygan. My parents, too, associate warmth with a long twilight: when they took a trip to Hawaii, they were surprised by the abrupt sunset.
