I like old cars, but I'm by no means a car buff, so I can't tell you what make of car or what year it is, just that it was discovered by Connie Mandoli, when she and her hubby, Dino, were doing some exploring in Traprock Valley. I'm sure some of you are thinking that old, abandoned vehicles aren't treasure, they're an eyesore. But that's all in the eye of the beholder, in my opinion, since this old relic gets my imagination racing. Who's car was it, why did they leave it here to slowly fade away, where did it get driven and what sights did its passengers see along the way... those are just a few of the questions I see in my mind, when I look at a vehicle like this. Then I think about how much fun it would have been as a kid, to find something like this and let my imagination take me away on adventures in this car. Oh yes, to some it's garbage that needs to go to the scrap yard, but to others it can take you anywhere you want to go, the sky is the limit.

So, who can identify the make and year?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 07:58 am:

There's definitely got to be a story behind that vehicle.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 08:05 am:

It's a Rambler! Almost as prehistoric as the dinosaur!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 08:07 am:

Somewhere about 1959..

By dane l. christensen (Danech55) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 08:08 am:

Never thought I'd live to see the day a Rambler would be called a "treasure". lol

By Jim MacMurray (Jimm14a) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 08:20 am:

definently a Rambler, I can see the begining R and ending R on the deck lid (trunk.) A "59" maybe

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 08:46 am:

I love the color.

We took a ride through cliff drive and came across some old vehicles in the woods. They were not as complete, if you will, as this car is. The vehicles we saw were almost right on the road.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 08:49 am:

Good I.D., JT! I was wondering about the R...R, as well.

By Mel, MN (Mehollop) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 09:08 am:

I would say that '59 Rambler is definitely correct, based on a quick google image search.

Rambling....they were rambling.....AND...what was the landscape like when it was parked there?? Who owned the property? LOTS of fun with this....

But be careful too...when you find stuff like this...accidents do happen...and accidents cause people!! LOL Gotta be careful w/those parked cars!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 10:16 am:

Mel, that looks like the same car as the one in the site you posted. Maybe they made only one color that year.;) Also the Rambler resembles a Packard of the same vintage.

By Bob Williams (Wabbit) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 11:10 am:

Mikill...thank was the car I'm driving that you saw on Cliff drive. I was on a walk through the woods. lol

Mikill...that was the car I'm driving that you saw on Cliff drive. I was on a walk through the woods. lol

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 11:20 am:

BOB....What do you mean?

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 11:21 am:

Is that a joke, Bob? LOL..:O)

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 11:39 am:

Alex... Maybe a little rest & relaxation after a long drive? What with hauling all those people who knows where, emergencies that got handled, site that were seen, & not many roads NOT traveled..... it was time.

By Karen Benton (Nerakthenice178) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 11:57 am:

I can hear it now .. "Honey, I told you to mark where you parked the car!"

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 12:08 pm:

I suppose we'll never know, but it's my guess that the car wasn't 'driven' to that spot....bet it was dumped.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 02:01 pm:

Growing up, our neighbor was a elementary school principal he swore by Ramblers! At one time he had a Rambler station wagon. He could squeeze a nickle from a turnip...

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 02:38 pm:

Sounds like an Ex-Lax moment :-(

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 02:46 pm:

Mr. Hill would never have spend money on ex-lax, not when prunes were much cheaper......

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 02:49 pm:

Hi
I agree with Shirley; this is a dumping, probably. I've heard that dumping cars in the ocean provides fish habitat (gives 'em a place to hide from predators) but I don't think it does anything useful in the woods.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 02:57 pm:

Would anybody b willing 2 restore this car?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 03:26 pm:

Thomas, I have to ask.....why would anybody want to? ;)
Looking at the front fender, top and trunk, it looks as though there was a fire under the (missing) hood. Sorta sad in a way, knowing that once upon a time it was a 'beauty' in its own way.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 04:02 pm:

Thomas, it would cost a lot more to restore this car than what it would ever be worth. Your best bet would be to just fork out the money for one that is already restored. A 2 door would be the better choice unless you want a taxi cab project.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 04:10 pm:

p.s. if you want to put some money in a Rambler, put it towards a '69 Rambler Scrambler!

By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 04:20 pm:

Is this a omen ? The Rambler was made by American Motors. The same company George Romney ran.

By dane l. christensen (Danech55) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 06:33 pm:

I am not dissing Amc by any means......The 390 Javelin broke a lot of Camaro and Mustang hearts in the late 60's and early 70's.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 09:30 pm:

Check out the Dream Cruise, that car would be reborn in a heartbeat.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 09:56 pm:

It's an eyesore in the beautiful woods, what a shame! I'd use it for target practice now.

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 - 06:00 am:

I looked on Yahoo images with no luck as I just knew it was a Rambler of some sort. In 1987, Chrysler agreed to buy Renault's share in AMC, plus all the remaining shares.
On the day that sale was going down I was wiring a quite large home in West Bloomfield for an official of AMC and production was stopped as he waited the outcome of his employment.

By Bob Williams (Wabbit) on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 - 11:15 am:

Mickill... I was just making a joke that my car is in about the same shape as the pictured car. You said you saw some cars in the woods along Cliff drive.
