It looks like Brian Rendel and friends, found a nice place for a February evening stroll. Brian, Joe and Penny were on the snowmobile trail in Ripley recently and brought us some of the views they were treated to along the way. The lights were on over at the Mont Ripley ski hill and there were some folks on the lift, heading to the top for some skiing under those lights. Brain also snapped a photo of the Ranger III, where she rests all iced-in for the winter and finally we get a look at the Quincy Smelter and the Portage Lift Bridge in the distance. Sure was a good night for a walk, thanks for taking us along, Brian.

Nice pictures! Love the 2 with the lighted ski hills!

Good Morning. What a great place for a morning walk! I'm curious. Normally, since water expands as it freezes, that would put tremendous force on the Ranger III. Do they keep water bubbling around the hull, so it doesn't freeze, like other large boats have when they are docked for winter storage, or what?

Nice...A different view of Ripley, which I normally only see it on the MTU webcam. Speaking of the MTU webcams, their View Cam is one of my favorites, especially in the summer.

Cold, but quiet and peaceful pix.
Thanks for that site, Alex, very nice view.

Alex,

On days when I'm home and I remember, I keep an eye on the Ranger III schedule using the newly found marine traffic tracker (highlighted right here). I then watch on the Bridge Cam, the Ranger's return as she goes under the lift bridge followed by her turning around on the View Cam.

Exciting and heady times living vicariously through the internet!!!

So what is the status of the smelter restoration project? Last summer whenever I drove into Hancock from Lake Linden I saw lots of hustle there. Does it shut down for the winter?
