Struttin’ down the road without a care in the world and it looks as if the dogs behind these traveling goats could care less. Then again, Sherry Giacoletto, could just be taking these critters out for their daily walk! Looking closely at the picture you can see that each of them have some type of collar on, so it’s entirely possible you could hook up a leash and walk the goat. I wonder if there are any bridges in the vicinity, with trolls living underneath? If so, I hope they let the billy goats pass over to the other side!

For any visitors who are scratching their heads, thinking Mary Drew has gone bonkers…I’m making reference to the old tale of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. ;->

I love this picture! My poor Daisy Mae (pygmy goat) died just about a year ago on a cold snowy winters day....it was pretty sad...she was a lot of fun!

Just as a note, there are a lot of people using goats as pack animals. Grown castrated male dairy goats can carry about 50 pounds, do almost no damage to trails, follow along with out a lead, and are great companions. Do a search on packgoats, it is very interesting. These look to be pygmy goats and wouldn't likely be be used as packers, but still nice to take with you as a compaion.

I met Admiral Bursey who had been on one of the explorations to the south pole with Admiral Byrd through my wife's family in Shelby, MI around 1971. He talked of harnessing a goat to a wooden dog sled in Newfoundland in his youth to pull him around his home village. I remember him in his retirement making wooden dogsleds without any metal except for under the runners (they were pegged and lashed I believe with rawhide) and he sold them to mushers throughout North America. He showed me souvenirs collected from around the world during his military career.

pygmy goats and actually do take them for walks in
Chassell along with my miniature stallion (31 inches tall)
and 2 llamas. We have a riot. The goats in particular are
very entertaining and sweet. Nothin' like goat antics to
make a person laugh!

Now THAT'S a scene we don't find in Florida every day!!! However, the sky looks just as sunny, and robin's egg blue. I just love the photos posted here. I check it every day. I'm originally from Fort Wayne, IN, and we used to vacation in Curtis MI in the UP each summer when I was a child. I enjoy checking in and seeing how things are in your neck of the woods. Hi all....The goats in the picture look kind of chubby compared to many here in Texas. I guess for the warmth? A friend of mine here just had "14" baby goats born in the last 2 weeks! Are we the only ones that had a cantankerous goat? There was nothing sweet about his nature, although he was pretty funny to watch. He charged every living creature that happened past. He ate every leaf on the tree he was tied to, within the sphere of his tether, even if it meant climbing the tree to do it. Never underestimate a goat.

I must admit the weather here is nice in the winter, but I still miss the winters I actually lived in the Keweenaw. Mary,thanks for the link to the story about the Three Billy Goats Gruff. When I was in Kindegarten Mrs St John used to read us that story and we would act it out. Our little green chairs made the bridge. Anyone from $Bay remember that? It sure was a pretty day that photo was taken.

Yes, Urb, that was me. What a beautiful day to be on one of the highest points in the Peninsula! I could actually see all the way to Manitou Island, with a breathtaking view of the Cliffs, Mt. Horace Greeley, Mt. Bohemia, and Mt. Houghton gracing the rim of the Keweenaw Valley. Back in the fall I made a short video (windows media) while climbing the tower, which is on the north side of Calumet/Laurium.

I had no idea there were so many moutains up yonder. The only I ever knew of was Brockway Mt. See, you do learn something new every day. When others have spoken of Mt.Gratiot, Mt. Houghton and Mt. Boehma I had no idea where they were located. Now I do. Thanks for the map.
