Good morning from Mishawaka, IN. Not as cold as the past few mornings have been. Got to finish my shopping today. Won't take long if I get at it early enough.

The picture of the bridge is beautiful

Yesterday was a good one for me. A long-time friend brot over
copies of the Grand Marais Gazette dating back to October. He
used to go up there every summer. Now his wife can't make the
trek so the Gazette keeps him in touch. I like weeklies (or
biweeklies as the Gazette is). They stick to the business of local
news tho the Gazette is filled with political comment and real
groaners when it comes to jokes too. In some ways I like best
the stated business hours of the Gazette: "If you see the dark
blue Chevy Suburban out front, give it a try." Is that small-town
or what!
Small towns have a way of being pretty savvy tho. I notice in
the Nov. 17 issue that the Grand Marais harbor will be getting
$1.5 million for harbor work. That was just a few weeks after
Grand Marais got Gov. Granholm and Cong. Stupak to town for a
little look-see. Must be a pretty sharp little town, wouldn't you
say?

Trollperson, That would be Zephyrhills Florida!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - 11:40 am:

Zephyrhills, Florida. About 25 miles north of Tampa, 8-10 miles east of I-75, at the intersection of Highways 54 and 301. Winter home of 50,000 Snowbirds and a zillion flea markets! All on the streets at the same time! Snowbirds that is!

CharlesinAdrian, How I miss Michigan's small towns...and most of all, living in a small Michigan town.
How I relished it taking more than half an hour to travel to town...and the town being so small that you could park your car on the street and then walk to all the businesses.
I remember on those treks into town, that my daughter would look out the window, and remark as we drove down the street: "Tree... cow ...anudder tree...barn...cow...cow...horse...tree ...tree... tractor...oh wow, anudder car, we must be getting close to town, eh."

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - 05:23 pm:

Soon Sur5er. Remember you'll be visiting the
UP in the new year, and living there in hardly
any time at all!

Monday I'll be cruising the streets of downtown
Ishpeming. Maybe even stopping in for a pizza
at the Congress after we check out our
daughter's Christmas tree in her little
apartment that's within walking distance from
all downtown businesses.

Yeah! (And this should be said the way Kermit
the Frog would have said it.)

Kosk, I just wish that 'soon' was 'sooner' ;)
Have a safe and wonderful trip home for the holidays. So how is your daughter faring in the UP, on her own...what a sense of adventure and independence, she must have, eh.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - 06:25 pm:

Sur5er,

She sure does have a sense of adventure.
Thanks for your good wishes.
