Last week we had a look at a 'sleeping giant' from an Isle Royale summit. This week Susan Hooker gives us a glimpse of another 'snoozing silhouette', viewed from Point Abbaye in Baraga County. Even if you can't make out the 'sleeping giant' in the distance, the vista is outstanding. In the second photo we visit another spot around the same neck of the woods. Tracey Barrett was in the Mount Arvon parking area, when she snapped this shot, showing off the colors we've been seeing this week as the leaves make their change to fall foliage hues. For those of you wondering how the colors are coming along, there are spatterings of color all around, but according to our local Meteorologist (and a sponsor here at Pasty Central), John Dee, "It looks like the main color show will be pretty close to the normal time, October 6th to 15th".

Great pictures, I can almost smell the fall air too! Thanks for the shot of "pic me up" that this site gives me this morning

Beautiful pics. What I wouldn't give to be out hiking in da UP right now. Sigh.

This is why we look at the pasty cam every day!! Great shots. The only problem is it makes us long for being there. I cant think of anywhere else that has the same pull on us. Thanks for the great pics.

Beautiful shot of Pte Abbaye, one of my favorite spots. I've had a picture chosen for the pic of the day from about the same spot, different season. Congrats to my friend, Tracey, for the bottom picture! Tracey is from the Baraga County Tourist & Rec Assoc. and is responsible for making Mt. Arvon so easily accessible for us, and also for seeing that the snowmobile trails are maintained, etc. She does it all!

We'll be UP tomorrow, so I checked the up.net weather in Baraga County. I already knew to expect a rain/snow mix tomorrow night, but was shocked to see the forecast for the next day! It says "unseasonably warm, 78 degrees".

Just two more weeks and I will be able to breathe the freshness of the UP! Thanks for the pictures -they help to sustain me here in the lower and grace my desktop for all to enjoy.

Yea!! I'll hit the color season if it's through the 15th. I could take some of that unseasonably warm weather while I'm back too!!!
Beautiful pics! Have a great day.

Both are worthy of the 2006 calendar.

Hi All!

Just to let you know, the top picture is taken from Pt. Abbaye with the Huron Mountains in the distant. The 'snoozing silhouette' in the background (round top mountain) is called Huron Mountain. To the left not shown in the picture would be the Huron Islands and to the right down Huron Bay would be Skanee. I love the wilderness beauty of this whole area.

Beautiful pics again as usual. Speaking of such, do we get to vote for photos for the 2006 calendar as we did for 2005? That was my first year for that. It was so hard, I remember, because of Dan Urbanski's death and his extraordinary range of photos! I still miss his donations of art. When do we get to vote?

By Tim Holland (Tholland) on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 - 08:05 pm:

The fall colors and the crashing lake are my favorite things to witness in the U.P. Just came back from a Copper Country trip and also completed the Lake Superior Circle tour, which was very scenic.
