Morning All.

7:30 over at the Bridge Cam and it looks like a beautiful day in the UP. Like the song, "See you in September." From the FCA Newsletter comes this tidbit,
Yesterday is a canceled check
Tomorrow is a promissary note
Today is all the cash you have,
Spend it Wisely!
Enjoy the day.

Friends visited Houghton/Hancock two weeks ago, and for country bumpkins the bridge was a treat. They did get to see it go all the way up.

Oh, boy, I see Gladstone only lost 6-2 against Adrian-Blissfield
in the state American Legion tournament held in Blissfield this
weekend. Believe me, they did well to lose by only 4 runs. This
Adrian-Blissfield team has a coach, Larry Tuttle, with more wins
at the high school level than any other coach in Michigan and
maybe in America. The only thing he has never won is the U.S.
American Legion title. Larry only agreed to unite with his old
rivals from Adrian, I think, so he could get to the American
Legion World Series. With six kids on this team playing college
ball they may do it. Up to now this team has won by about 20
runs difference per game so you can see Gladstone did well to
only lose by four.

I do not know if author Ingrid Hill reads or posts to this site, but I applaud her book, Ursula, Under. This book is about a child, Ursula, of Chinese and Finnish heritage, who falls down a mine shaft just a few miles south of Eagle Harbor. Set in the Keweenaw, the modern story tells about the rescue efforts. However, woven in is the story of Ursula's Finnish and Chinese ancestors whose lives culminate in the miracle of the little girl underground. The story weaves back and forth from ancient times to the present magically.

From the information on the author, it appears that she is of Swedish heritage and from Iowa. But she knows the UP, Finns, and includes even the Italian Hall disaster in Calumet! The story can be enjoyed by anyone, but will especially resonate with people from the Copper Country.

Just getting ready to sit down and enjoy some corn on the cob that I just got from Michigan...fresh from the field. What is it about Michigan corn, that makes all others pale in comparison?

Thanks Sur5er. Hope you enjoyed your Michigan Corn.

I would like to give a big Shout Out to all of the volunteer Fire fighters that responded to the brush fire north of Gay in the township of Sherman on Thursday night,(Sherman township, Lac La Belle, Allouez and any others I might have missed) also all of the Officers that were on the seen as well as the crew of Mercy Ambulance and last but not least the great guys from the State of Michigan DNR Fire Crew. The fire apparently stated from a lighting strike from the storm on Wednesday night and was called in by someone in Hermits cove ( by the way big thank you to you also) on Thursday night. It burned the eastern part of my land and a lot of my neighbors land to the east of me, with the winds from the south west it missed my camp and has taken a great toll on the land to the east. When I left there this afternoon the fire was still going strong and the DNR crew was going on 24hrs straight of working on it and I would guess they are still on seen as I type this. The work all of you guys do is Great and is Greatly appreciated and I would like to give all of you a Great Big Thank you for what you do!!!

Hi Downstatedon-
I got mine at Costco. I also checked eBay and all the book dealers have the book. It was a little bit of a slow start, but once I got into it I really enjoyed the book.

Susan - I wouldn't know since when I passed through, it was grey, heavily trafficked and boring. But then, maybe it was because we were on an Interstate in the wrong end of the state - way down south ... :)
