I would guess that even in the days that the United States Coast Guard owned and operated this station at White City (Jacobsville), you still wouldn't have gotten in there to have a look see. Now-a-days this property is privately owned and is someone's residence, so in order to check it out, you have to take to the water, like Brita Haapala did. Gazing at this picture, I found myself daydreaming about what a dandy place this would be to live, since you're at the end of the road, which means NO traffic, except of course for passing boats. Just grab your fishing hat, your favorite pole and some tackle and you're dousing your hook in no time. As my old fishin' buddy Eino would say - - Wah!

When I was a teen I used to go along the shore over there looking at some of the old foundations that were the remnants of White City. My Gramps used to tell me how as a youngster he remembered White City and taking a couple of rides on the excursion boat that used to dock there. I believe it is at the bottom of the canal up around the Tech? I do believe you can still drive by th CG Station when you go to the beach on that side? Haven't been down that way in awhile. Nice pic and as usual many memories for me. Thanks!

Did a little walking in White City last October on one of those bonus autumn days. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful. Even walked half way out to the light house before the wet and slippery sent me back to the beach.

Gee, I don't think I have ever been to White City.I don't know how I missed it cause we drove all around the Jacobsville area the last time I was home. I have heard it is a really nice area.

Hi Liz, it was a HOT one today 110 degrees!!!!We just had to stay in doors. Really disgusting.

Whomever got the dibs on this place got a deal regardless of what they paid. As a former govt contractor, I know they only build the best.....and God isn't making much more beachfront unless California goes under and Nevada suddenly becomes the new Malibu...........

I remember the old Coast Guard Station in Jacovsville, we used to play with the kids who's parents were stationed there. Thanks for the photo, it brought back some good memories!

Been reading all the comments about the 'Light.' My grandfather was the 'Keeper' until his retirement, when he and my grandmother moved into their home in Jacobsville. There were 13 children in their family. As a child, my parents would return from our Chicago area home to visit the region, as well as the relatives we still had who'd stayed on in the U.P., between Jacobsville and Copper Harbor. I recall the name Marcy from mothers stories about life in the U.P.
