Silver is considered a desirable commodity, whether you're talking jewelry, dollars, rivers or falls! It's the latter that we're talking about today of course. The Silver Falls and the Silver River are both picturesque with the rugged terrain surrounding them. Suzanne Lunn has a few shots of her son and friends on an excursion to enjoy the sights and sounds of the rushing waters located six miles northeast of L'Anse. It must have been on one of our chillier days since they're pretty bundled up, but then again Suzanne says several of the guys were from Georgia and this was their first trip to the U.P. Could be they just weren't acclimated to the cooler climate here compared to their southern home. These two shots illustrate the tamer version of the river compared to the featured pics back on April 26th, which brought us right next to the white-water action.

Speaking of action, be sure to mark your Pasty Cam Calendar for the Pasty Fest 2005 activities taking place on July 2nd, in Calumet. Only 28 more days and you could be one of the first 400 to enjoy a free pasty, if you remember to clip your Daily Mining Gazette coupon!

Good Morning from beautiful Colorado, 3 inches of snow this morning !?! Coming back for the 4th

By FLYIN da MOONEY on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 08:58 am:

The 4th of July is the best homecoming there is. There isn't a place I have been that is more "American" on the 4th than the Keewenaw...See you soon...........

By Tim, Saint Clair Shores, MI on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 09:11 am:

To "Flyin Da Mooney" I don't want to discuss airplanes on Pasty.com, but briefly, what year and model Mooney do you own? Those are speedy airplanes!

I love the Keweenah so much that I have thought of using my pilot's license more and actually buying a 40 year old Cessna or Piper to cut down on those 10 hour drives to Copper Harbor. Besides, it is a neat way to sight see. I figure on $25,000 for a 2 seat Cessna 150 that is in great condition.

To "MTU ALUM", what part of CO. are ya from?
I'm from Montrose. I wish I was headin home for the fourth.

Tim
Isn't it Keweena{w} not keweena{h} or are both used?

By Alex Tiensivu, Georgia on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 11:20 am:

I remember the 4th in the Keweenaw. FLYIN da MOONEY said it all... What I wouldn't give to be there with my family THIS 4th. (I'd make sure I got one of those Pasties, too!)

There truly is no other place to be! I am now SOOOO homesick!

By Stix out West on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 11:42 am:

Not that many years ago I heard my daughter tell a friend that the 4th of July to her (in the Copper Country) is like Xmas!! That really put it in perspective!! For many many years, we have gotten the kids from Jacobsville (its a booming play ground for about two weeks in the summer!!!),decorate and then pile into a couple of my dad's Model A's!! Then we go in the Lake Linden, Hubbell and sometimes Dollar Bay parades. The kids, some are teens, absolutely love doing this! We usually have a mechanical problem or two along the way but always manage to have fun and get to the parades!! So now when an art show opportunity over the 4th comes along, I always say that is one of only a few weekends that I won't even consider making another commitment. The 4th of July in the Keweenaw is unlike anywhere else!! And if you have never been out to Lake Linden, the decorations on the streets and houses start in Tamarack and continue to Lake Linden....well worth the drive!

Great shots!! Who could ask for more?

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 12:56 pm:

I knew those falls right away! I have fall pictures of the same vicinity in my gallery and I should have paid attention when it was explained how to link it. Just go to Marsha Galbraith. I'll be UP Monday for a few days. Can't wait!

By California Yooper on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 02:34 pm:

Great pictures of Silver River. Northern California is beautiful but it can't hold a candle to the UP!!

By FLYIN da MOONEY on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 06:12 pm:

Tim......email me direct for good info....especially as regards a great 150. (Sorry Charlie...boot me if you must...LOL)

By Beverly, San Jose on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 07:35 pm:

California Yooper: It holds many candles if you take the time to look. :) You can't see with your eyes closed! Open up those peepers...you would be amazed.

By Kewee mom on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 10:29 pm:

it's Keweenaw, but pronounced 'key-when-awe'

By Theresa Colorado on Saturday, June 4, 2005 - 11:45 pm:

By keweenaw gal, MI on Sunday, June 5, 2005 - 06:23 am:

MTU ALUM, "coming back for the 4th"; does that mean you are coming back to the Keweenaw for the fourth of July, or does it mean the snow is coming back to Colorado for the Fourth? ha ha ha
