Morning!

By Susan, Fl on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 04:30 am:

My, are we early today! Someone please help....am having one of those "senior moments"...what was the name of the old airport in Detroit? Many moons ago....to the northwest of the city, I think. It was around before Metro was a gleam in whoever's eye! Thanks

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 05:13 am:

Susan,
Do you mean Detroit City Airport? I used to fly Midway Airlines to Chicago from there sometimes.

By Susan, Fl on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 06:06 am:

Cindy, no, it had another name...maybe it is Detroit City Airport now...but I'm looking for another name....all that comes to mind is Idlewild...how silly is that...just a few states and a few runways away! Thanks anyways.

By Mr.Bill on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 06:29 am:

Are Tag and Wright still flying from City?

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 06:39 am:

Mornin', I feel like the little fox. Can't get the ol' eyes open.

By Downstate Helen on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 06:40 am:

I believe it might of been called Willow Run.

By Don again on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 06:44 am:

Susan -- How about Willow Run?

By Susan, Fl on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 06:45 am:

Downstate Helen....that's it! Thanks so much. Has been irritating me all night that I couldn't remember. I feel much better now...can go home and curl up with my critters and get some sleep!

By Susan, Fl on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 06:46 am:

Don...thank you too :)

By sur5er on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 07:22 am:

Susan, Willow Run! I remember a friend of mine had a boyfriend who worked at Willow Run Airport and we got lost in the middle of the night going to pick him up. Oh my...now you are aging us all, because if memory serves me right,we were in my first car...a Pinto. Whataya mean it's not called Willow Run any more? ;)

By troll with connections, Mi on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:02 am:

It's still called Willow Run. And it's still being used for cargo, private and charter flights. The Yankee Air Museum is still there as well. But it did have a bad fire last year.

By Janie, IA. on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:23 am:

sur5er: caught the word "pinto" in your response...we have 2 pinto's (the car) and 2 pinto's (as in ponies). gave me a chuckle!

By Thad on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:28 am:

Detroit City Airport is the one in the city on the northeast side. Willow Run is out by Ypsilanti.

By anonyma on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:32 am:

I live on Pinto!

By ed/mi on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:36 am:

No commercial flights any longer leave from Detroit City Airport.

By nerd on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:47 am:

a Pinto and a pinto=two pintos. The Pinto's paint is peeling. The pinto's wanting to get going.

What about the bean?

By sur5er on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 09:27 am:

I named my Pinto "Boom Boom", because of the gas tank thing. But dang, I loved that car. It was the first car I drove with a stick shift. I think I actually wore the tires off my Pinto from driving it so much.
Willow Run Airport: it's on I-94...east of Metro Airport...somewhere...I'm about as sure as that time I got lost trying to find it ;)

Janie: you have horses? How neat. My neice rides ponies and has been riding in competitions for years.

By sur5er on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 09:36 am:

Interesting: The Detroit City Airport is now called the Coleman A Young International Airport.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 09:58 am:

Here are the Detroit airports being discussed today:

Detroit Airports

DET = Coleman A. Young Municipal Airport
DTW = Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport
YIP = Willow Run Airport

By Janie, IA. on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 10:58 am:

Sur5er: I grew up wth horses, a life-long gift my dad installed in me, some 40 plus years ago. Our daughter showed for 12 years, great way to bring up a daughter ha! Right now I have nine, 6 mini's, a Quarter horse, an Appy, and a Welsh pony.

By DP, WI on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 12:11 pm:

How are the flys on the lake? Can you camp out on the beaches without getting eaten alive?

By Frank,,,,,,Milw........ on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 12:47 pm:

Regarding Sunday's post about the Hiawatha Drive-in Theater. Al & Jim Gasvoda were "CO-OWNERS" with my Parents in that venture. I also was a projectionist there. I remember fogging for mosquitoes be-fore the first show. Driving the old jeep with the fogging machine on it and the people scrambling to close their windows as we went by. That was in the early 50's. Fun and good memories.

By Lowell Mo. on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 01:14 pm:

Interesting note on Willow Run: Thats where Ford built the plant to make bombers WW II.
How many remember that??

By Fran,Ga on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 02:27 pm:

Dave H. Corryton, My e-mails stillwon'tgo thru.They say you don't have a Yahoo account.

What I waned to tell you was that I just got an e-mail from RCW'S (Bob's)sister-in-law Laverne and she had just talked to Shirley and she said that Bob did not have a heart attack as first thought. They got him to the hospital in time.He expects to go home Wed. Isn't that the greatest news?? Fran

By Displaced Yooper on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 02:58 pm:

To Fran,Ga - Thanks for the update on RCW. So thankful to hear he will be okay. Many kind thoughts and prayers go out to him.

By Dave, Tennessee on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 04:35 pm:

I remembered that! Mostly because my Dad was making those bombers at Willow Run before he enlisted and ended up in the middle of the Battle of the Bulge!

Thanks for letting everyone know - so many all pulled together to win WWII - thanks to them all!

By Russ E. St. Clair & Kalkaska countys on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:45 pm:

Yeah Dave H. in Corryton. Some of my emails to you bounce also. Just some tho. I think you're getting a few!? (Say Ya to da UP "EH")?

By Russ E. St. Clair county MI on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 08:48 pm:

Crow Aquisitions?? Yeah where have I just heard about them recently?? hmmm Now I'm nosey too!

By FRNash/PHX, AZ on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 09:15 pm:

Re N43QF:
Interesting, the same aircraft was in Phoenix, AZ on May 14, 2005.

And by the way, just 'cuz "Crow Acquisitions" is the registered owner, doesn't mean they're also the operator. It could very well be on long term lease to someone else.

By k on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 09:41 pm:

Aaaahhhh....I see.

By Miss Marpol on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - 06:45 am:
