read somewhere that the lunch buckets had compartments. The bottom would contain hot liquid--soup or coffee. These would keep the next level--pasty--warm. On top could be whatever cold food was added.

The "PASTY". What a meal! What can I say.

Does anyone know where the Sturgeon River McMann school was? Was that the one on Sturgeon River Rd. south of Chassell? Thanks in advance.

Margaret Tx. one of my "baby boys" called me last night from somewhere near your area, Plain field, Plainview? He's a trucker who drives your way atleast once a week. He appreciates the midwest a lot more now.

I'm not sure the name of the school, but there was a school on the Sturgeon River Road near where road crosses the river. You go beyond the current bridge about 100' to where the old bridge used to cross. There is well pipe there with running water and the foundations of the school are in the brush behind it. Spent many hours swimming around the old bridge.

The Sense of a Goose.
When you see geese flying along in a “V” formation, consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way. As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird right behind. By flying in “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own….
People who share a common direction and help one another can get where they are going more quickly because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone – and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front. If we have as much sense as a goose, we’ll stay in formation with people who are headed in the same way we are.
When the head goose gets tired, it moves back in the formation and another goose flies point. It’s sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs, whether with people or with geese flying south.
Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. What messages do we give when we honk from behind?
Finally – and this is important – when a goose gets sick or is wounded and falls out of formation, two other geese fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection. They stay with the fallen goose until it’s able to fly or until it dies, and only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation to catch up with their group.
If we have the sense of a goose, we’ll stand by each other like that….

What a wonderful story, we can all learn something by it. Stand by one another thru thick and thin. Have faith!

Alex,called me and said he is doing fine, the stitches come out soon and he will have more use of his hand. He could only talk a few min as his other arm starts to go numb.He isanxious to get the other one done.

Fran, glad to hear that Alex is healing after his surgery...but then again, it never seems as though it's going fast enough, eh. Hope you are surrounded by family and friends over Memorial weekend.

Hubby came home after a week on the road...and fighting traffic in Chicago, and the first words out of his mouth when he stepped out of his tractor were, "we have got to get up to the UP ASAP!" ;) Three more years...and counting...but will settle for a lost weekend up in the UP, for right now.

Thanks sur5er, yes we have a guest for the weekend so that will be nice. People are either calling or come by to see how we are.
