Lake Linden was bustling with Christmas activities over the weekend and we were lucky enough to partake of a several of them. My grandsons and I went on the Lazy K Ranch, horse drawn wagon ride through town, right down the main drag (Calumet St./M26). It was a beautiful sunny day for taking a ride and singing Jingle Bells along the way. When we returned to our starting point at the school, it was time to give the horses a little thank you petting and then head inside to visit with Santa. Alex was having trouble remembering the long name of the item he wanted to ask Santa for, so he brought along his toy catalog to show him exactly what he was asking for. Santa told him he had lots of those in the North Pole, so he'd be sure to drop one off at his house. Zavier made his requests from Santa and then received a goodie bag, compliments of the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lions Club.

There were other activities going on for the Christmas in Lake Linden celebration, like a parade the night before, tree lighting, and a bazaar, just to name a few. It was a fun time for the community to celebrate the season together.

This is what Christmas time is all about, family, fun times, celebrations, and Santa! And most important, keep Christ in Christmas!

Awesome pictures, Mary!! It's nice seeing your grandchildren in some of these. What a wonderful way to celebrate the season! Strange not seeing snow banks, though.

Is that Capt. Paul driving that wagon? Flew in just for the occasion, aye Capt.?
And Alex, I can relate. Lately, I have trouble remembering too. :-)

It does look like the Capt at the reins! lol!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, December 15, 2011 - 08:22 am:

...and he is wearing his Texas-style yooper cap, as well.

The Capt could double for Hank Williams Jr.! All My Rowdy Friends!

By wilson (Wilson) on Thursday, December 15, 2011 - 09:08 am:

...so the capt. is "on the wagon"??

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, December 15, 2011 - 10:08 am:

The kids are sweet, the wagon ride is nice, Santa is always a welcome sight....but give me the horses!! Seems the one on the right needs a good conditioner, though. They're just big ol' "huggy bears"! What they won't go through for their human pals.:)

I find it interesting to note the change in location of community dominance over the years.
When I was a kid Hancock was sort of the seat of
economic activity. Today the town is almost nothing. The activity is in the Houghton corridor what we once called Van Orden's HIll. Houghton was
a village back then. The communities of Lake Linden and Dollar Bay were very quiet places to live.
Calumet played some role being a shopping area but
not like Hancock.
Today it seems there is a broader representation
of the communities of the CC.
Remember, I am making a comparison of today verus 60+ years ago.

I assume some of you found my Hank Jr. photo from the Guest Gallery photos!?!? All I'll say is if I have rowdy friends, they obviously live on the PastyCam!! J
