Beautiful pix honoring our Vets....love the wood-carved eagle! The last one recalls the many times I've seen snowblowing on the roads....especially in N.D.....sometimes one couldn't even see the pavement. Hazardous!

Because of you, I am here
Because of you, I am able to live freely
Yet I do not know you
And I have not done anything for you
But there you stand, ready to fight
And there you are prepared to die
You've fought before
And you'll fight again
For someone you don't know
So thank you Unknown Soldier
For fighting for me
I'm here because of you
And I owe my future to you.

Good morning!! Just where exactly IS Menagerie Island. Awesome picture, for sure. Love all the flag pictures, and the "pounding waves" was awesome!!

Mary says: Deb, Menagerie Island is part of Isle Royale, check out the day these were posted: November 11, 2008.
Also, check out this link about the Lighthouse on Menagerie. There's a small map there showing the location, too.

Menagerine Island is off Isle Royale, South west of Rock Harbor.

Thinking of all the veterans today, including many in my family.

Very nice post, Holidays!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, November 11, 2011 - 02:42 pm:

Great pictures, especially the ones honoring all of our Veterans. And as the Dominion of Canada observes this day as Remembrance Day, thank you to the Canadian Veterans for your service to your country.

I'd suggest NMU stop recruiting hockey players from British Columbia!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, November 11, 2011 - 04:58 pm:

I second that, Thomas!

By Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl) on Friday, November 11, 2011 - 05:24 pm:

That's a great post Hollidays. I would like to thank my father-in-law, Norman Barga, for his service in WWII. He was in the Air Force and was an aircraft mechanic stationed in England. Love you Stormin' Norman.

I lost a pal, a mentor, and a cousin when Franklin Du Long was killed in Viet Nam. His birthday is on the eighteenth of this month. He would have been seventy eight. Born in Hubbell and raised in Indiana died in Viet Nam. A real hero. On his third deployment.
