By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 08:00 am:

Good Friday Morning!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 08:01 am:

Morning, Cap'n!!! Waiting for your picture to start your day off right also, huh?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 08:06 am:

Morning there Deb! Waiting for a taste of heaven in amongst the other bazillion things I'm doing already this morning....

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 08:25 am:

TGIF people! Yay!

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 08:41 am:

Must be nice to just wait around with nothing to do but compete for the big bird....:)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 08:45 am:

FJL, it's my only peaceful time of the day, lol!! And it's a great way to start the day. And what great pictures we have today!!

What was the Oak House Bar?? I remember going to the Oak Room when I was a kid, but I don't remember the Oak House. Anyone?? Was the Oak Room the dining center and the Oak House the bar? If I remember, they served great lobster!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 09:48 am:

Of course I have nothing to do FJL; I work for state government!! ;-)

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 10:34 am:

Now that statement the public understands...:)

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 02:57 pm:

Good pics.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 05:13 pm:

There go our tax dollars Captain Paul. Sorry, but I am worried about claiming my SS, it's not looking pretty after working 50 years of my life. Hate government workers, tired of paying for them to do nothing.
Just to let you all know, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".
Having fun up here, sorry for you that aren't.

By Dr. Nat (Drnat) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 06:48 pm:

Humour is supposed to make people laugh, or at least chuckle, not bring out the hate.

I have worked for various government agencies for most of my career (township, county, state, United States federal government, and even a foreign agency). If one hates government workers, then one obviously doesn't like the snow to be plowed, the lift bridge operating, teachers, firefighters, the brave soldiers who defend us, and that guy who cuts the Social Security cheques each month.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 06:54 pm:

Nice Dr. Nat!!

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". Me thinks you should practice what you preach. You're the one who said she "hates government workers". It's okay to not like the way our leaders are running things, but to hate the workers is another thing. They're hurting right now too, some being out of a job in this state because the government has shut down. I feel so sorry for those people.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 09:02 pm:

My nephew is employed with our Government fighting for our safety in Afghanistan for his second tour, don't tell me he's doing nothing and getting paid!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 09:11 pm:

For sure, Janie!!! You have to hand it to people like your nephew. I know I do:)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 09:19 pm:

Thanks Deb! I have to say, his wife, my niece, has paid a hefty price as well while he's been gone. Raising their 13 month old daughter on her own, working her teaching job , and having to go through a miscarriage all on her own, while my nephew is doing nothing as a government worker.

By C Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 09:28 pm:

I do believe there are plenty of non-government workers who do NOTHING at their jobs all day and get paid a lot of money for it. If you'd like to trade jobs with me sometime, you can see first hand that I have plenty to do in my state government job and it gets done. How does one sign up for one of those state government jobs where there is nothing to do??? I want one.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 10:14 pm:

My daughter-in-law works for the county government. She works her butt off. Like I said, get angry with those that are high enough to be running things improperly. Don't hate the messenger. That's just an awful statement to make.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 11:41 pm:

I was a government worker in the sixties. Not the job I would pick out for myself. I was in the Third Cav as a scout. Don't tell me I didn't earn the measly few dollars I got. Three of my kids work for the government. My son is a police man. My daughter is a teacher. She is also the winner of the best History teacher in Michigan. And her husband is the one who keeps the roads plowed in the winter and keeps the water flowing in the rest of the year. I don't understand how you can put down these people. Both boys are firemen also. Joanie grow up and stop insulting people who are hero's.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 11:44 pm:

I know both Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat and both contribute to our economy and to the betterment of our society. Don't like my friends being dissed.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 8, 2011 - 11:56 pm:

I know what you mean, Mikie. These people are our friends and we all know or love somebody who works for the government. They're only doing their jobs the best way they know how. It's sad that one person has to come here and throw hate messages around.

By Dr. Nat (Drnat) on Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 12:07 am:

Mr. Du Long,
Thank you. My father and father-in-law both served in the U.S. Army, my father during the 1960s and my father-in-law for just shy of 40 years. I am fairly certain they earned their pay. And honestly, I could earn much more working in industry, but there is some reward in teaching the next generation. I have no children of my own, but I have ninety adopted ones every semester and do my best to educate them.

By the way, we will be in Detroit around the end of the month. If possible, it would be nice to meet at Tim Hortons for coffee and a doughnut.

Good night and God bless to all!

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 07:50 am:

:)

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 08:01 am:

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but didn't there used to be a page for such postings as this, called ketchup or catsup, or something like that?

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 08:10 am:

Well said Mikie! Well said. Some people only want to complain. If you don't like something, then find a way to change it. But if you are not going to get off your lazy butt to try, then keep your mouth shut and stop putting others down. The person who hates government workers would most likely change their mind if their house was burning down or one of their loved ones needed EMS. Both government jobs.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 08:18 am:

Before I forget, yes, we should be glad we have government workers like police, firemen, snow plowers, etc.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 08:21 am:

Nothing like a good argument. :)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 08:42 am:

Mikie called it....Joanie, no surprise!

This was stated right after "Hate government workers, tired of paying for them to do nothing."

People should practice what they preach. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Stating that you hate someone is certainly not doing such.
