Amanda Cadwell and friends got together for what they figure is one of their last winter rides, making their way on trails through the snowy fields and along melting country roads. Sure looks like a good way to see the countryside and at a slower pace where you actually can see the beauty that surrounds you.

The snow is quickly melting here in the Keweenaw, with the bright sunshine and warm temperatures lately, but looking at the calendar, it's still early and we could end up with a few more storms before we can call winter "officially over" for the season. But like this group of riders, we'll enjoy what we can of the good weather now and get out there on horseback or whatever other mode of transportation to enjoy the fresh air.

One of my favorite pastimes as well! Happy trails to you Amanda!

"Good Morning", How are you feeling Janie ? Are you able to do a little horseback riding yet ? The slow and easy way is the only way to see the Keweenaw.

Do they make horse galoshes?

By Donna (Donna) on Saturday, March 19, 2011 - 08:49 am:

MANDY!!! Awesome pics....I opened my internet...saw the horse pics, and thought "Mandy needs to do this" and lo and behold, these are you!!! GREAT stuff! Loveya!

And yes indeed..what a great way to see the Keweenaw..."over the mountains and through the woods".....(well...unless you count Brockway or Arvon or Bohemia...you probably aren't singing that song!)

Looks like fun. Haven't rode horseback in years, and my wife would enjoy that, too. She loves horses.

Dean, I'm feeling a lot better Thankyou! It's so good not to have the slight paralysis in my left leg! Not quite up to riding my horses yet though.

I just got this email:

Hi All
The St. Vincent de Paul COnference that I volunteer with , is being sponsored by a fundraiser on March 27th, Sunday from 2-5 at the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet. Its an afternoon of music, refreshments and bake sale. For those of you that dont' know, our conference is called Sts. Martha and Mary . We serve the needy in the areas of Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw. We don't have a store nor office, but do home visits. People are helped with all kinds of emergencies such as heating, power, water, medical ,transportation etc. The Amazing Grace Ministries is coordinating this, and they have chosen our conference to donate raised funds. These funds will help tremendously.

Also, anyone wishing to donate baked goods for the sale, it would be totally appreciated.
Baked goods can be dropped off at the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, March 25th between 5:30-8:00 p.m.

Thanks to all

And thought I'd post it here. THANKS PASTY!

Is the trail ride really a trial? Made me smile.

No snow left down here except for the dirty mountains in the
parking lots.

I'm hoping our winter is over...didn't have very much 'bad stuff' this year. I commented to my husband this morning that this was the first winter in a long while, that we didn't use our fireplace. I love the sights and smells of fireplaces but I hate to HAVE to use them to keep warm when we lose electricity. Come on, SUMMER! :)

That does look like a fun way to see the UP, but I wouldn't say the only way. There are a lot of great ways to see it, but I think E. Neil Harri has a really awesome way to see the UP. :-)

I really appreciate all the nice pictures that everyone shares with us.
