"Roof Sledding" brings back memories of the storms we'd get as kids...that would blow drifts up to the roof of the house.

Us kids would crawl out an upstairs window, slide down the drift, run in the house and head back upstairs and out on the roof to slide down again....

Mom would holler "What are you kids doing"...and our answer was always "Nothing"....

heehee

Good photos. View #8 brings me to a question I've always wondered. Looking at my UP map I always questioned whether ships travel completely thru the portage? I always had the orignal impression that ships only used the portage as a refuge from difficult lake situations.Okay experts straighten my thinking.

I got a splat. LOL LOL ;O)

We use to build a HUGE mound of snow in a corner of our backyard, make snow-steps up to it and slide down. One year we made snow hills and a couple of turns and it was fun. It is sad some kids do not know what it is to have fun.

Looks like it is time to reset the bridge cam. Seems to be a problem in keeping it current. I miss seeing the conditions especially with all the snow in the weather forecast.

Yes, lakers do go all the way through. They enter or exit at Portage Entry and do the same at the Breakwaters on the other end. We would watch them when we were kids. There was a surge of water when they went by. I guess they are so big that they displace a large volume of water when they pass. It was always fun to see them.

The Ravens are knocking at the Superbowl door. :)

Next game; Goooooo Packers!

Used to like the Eagles, not that I want them to win this game, until Michael Vick became a dog abuser. Some people have forgiven him---not me--ever. Hope the Packers give him what is due.

Thanks Roger. I wonder if it's possible they still do travel the portage and I could be lucky enough to see that happen!? I used to love watching different types of vessels passing thru the passage at Port Aransas, Texas near Corpus Christi. Navel shipes, ships towing huge metal forms being towed out into the Gulf for oil rigs, humongous foreign ships. You're right, the wake behind them sure is impressive! So miss wintering down there.
