David Clark spotted some wintry looking apples still clinging to the branches. Apples left on the tree this time of year, are good food for the deer and birds that stick it out UP North for the winter. The deer take care of the ones they can reach, leaving those more toward the top, like in the second photo, for their feathered friends to dine on. We took a ride yesterday and the red of the apples really stood out amongst the sea of gray branches. Those bottom two photos from a distance looked like apple trees, too, but once we moved a little closer, you could see they were mountain ash berries. Sure was nice to see a splash of color in an otherwise drab looking scene.

Today is the lighting of the state's Christmas tree here in the Capitol city. From my eighth floor office, I can see this gorgeous UP’s gift to the citizens of Michigan. I am exceptionally partial to this year’s tree due to the fact that Rudy and Ruth Maki from Iron Mountain donated the 65 foot tree; of course, it came from their Marquette County camp in Republic. Jim Carey’s logging company in Channing, Michigan cut and delivered the tree on a trailer that was donated from my high school friend’s father’s former business, MJ Electric. I truly want us to thank all the people in the UP, who participated in bringing this gift to us, the 80,000 plus people, who will be here to see the lighting of this stunning tree. Everyone, I want you to have a wonderful day, and to those of you, who are able to be home in our beautiful UP, you are indeed blessed.

Cold, cold pictures, but very pretty indeed! BTW, what kind of apple is that....beautiful markings?

Shirley -- no clue, the trees had gone "wild" near an old farmhouse.

I'm honored to be on the pasty cam today. And now... I want an
apple! :D

It usually does, at least more often or not, doesn't it?

Pytavey, that's sure a strange image on the Calumet WebCam today, eh?

Calumet Webcam

Really strong winds since yesterday, or did someone bump it?

Thank you, D.Clark. Well, I guess that's how God made 'em first, eh? ;D
