We started the week with a visit to a waterfall and we're ending it with another, courtesy of Ashlee Harvey (top three photos) and Steve and Laurie Bashaw (bottom three shots). Looks like these shutterbugs all decided that the Canyon Falls, located south of L'Anse, near Alberta, was the place to be.

Ashlee and her family stopped there and enjoyed the rushing water and scenery of the falls up close and even did a little flower picking as you can see in the third photo. There's something about that shot that just "gets" me. I love that little hand and arm, the shadow it makes and the pretty little flowers about to be snatched up, most likely as a little boy's offering to make his Mommy smile. :->

Steve and Laurie's three photos are further along at Canyon Falls, where the Sturgeon River waters have carved out a "gorge" in the steep, rocky walls. You can see from these photos how the river water really seems "boxed in" on both sides with the walls rising up to some lofty heights in places. Quite impressive!
Nice job with the photos today, Ashlee, Steve and Laurie... thanks for taking us along on the tour.

Today we put my Mother-in-law, Wilma J. Cogan (Smith) to rest, Mother fought a long battle with lung cancer. She went into the loving embrace of our savior on the 19th of May. Billee (as she was known by) was one of the founding members of the Detriot Woman's Bowling Association , and a member of the 500 club. She was involved with the young people to get them intrested in bowling, She also was one of the people who got bumper bowling started. She will be missed by all.

Neat how the rock slabs are layered like that, anyone want to explain why so my knoledge base can grow?

I'm like you, Mary -- that chubby little hand reaching down to pick those flowers is just precious.

The other day I took a walk w/ the 3-year-old granddaughter and a dog that we found, and she kept stopping to pick flowers and the dog kept stopping to sniff. A most interesting walk....

To DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu), my sympathy to you and your family. She must have been a very special lady.

I highly recommend the hike along the Sturgeon River to anybody who appreciates the natural beauty of the U.P. The hike is at times treacherous (sadly even deadly on occasion) and it's not a great place for dogs or children that like to run around, but it's truly one of the best hikes in the U.P. and I've been on many...
