In what is now going to be an annual event, 86 golfers took to the ice on the lake in front of the Dreamland Restaurant and Bar out in Bootjack, for a winter golf outing. Sally Beaudette (top 4 photos) and Patty Rheault (last two photos), were on hand to snap a few shots of the festivities. They tell me that it was a 9 hole course, with 4-person teams and they used tennis balls rather than golf balls, for obvious reasons. If you look closely at the photos, you'll see that a few of the golfers even had hockey sticks with them...now that's something you won't see in many golf tournaments. It was a beautiful, sunny day in the Keweenaw to hold the event and it sure looks like everyone was having a great time. Leave it to Yoopers to improvise when they get the itch to golf and the courses are still under a foot or two of snow.

LOL!!! GREAT stuff...and only in da U.P. eh!! Way to go!!!

I don't know, Mary; you do realise one can buy fluorescent orange golfballs these days, right?? I would think it should be pretty easy to play golf this time of year; no sand traps, no trees (although that hazard in the last photo looks like a real dog if you ask me!! ;-)

And I just watched Caddyshack over the weekend.

I can't golf in the summer, much less when I'm out there freezing!!!

I always thought the golfers are a little crazy...chasing a little ball around for miles when it's 90+ degrees in the summer! Now I know they're nutty!!!

How come I don't see Tiger Woods out there? I guess he was busy.

Was Happy Gilmore out there?

Alex: Tiger doesn't care for winter golf. Plus, he's already gotten the "cold shoulder" at home.

That could be "Tiger" Woods in the background on several pictures but more likely "Sleeping Bear" Woods!

Tiger's Wood is currently out of commision.

Fluorescent yellow and orange golf balls have been available for over 25 years. I used to play with them, when I still played golf, back then, until I got too far along in my pregnancy with my oldest son, who is now over 25 years old, for what it's worth. :-)

Actually, the pictures today look like a lot of fun for avid (but not that great) golfers, like my two younger sons. :-) Having fun and getting some exercise is what it's all about. I love the snowmobiles instead of golf carts.The guys in the 4-wheelers look like they were at a bit of a disadvantage, LOL.

Using the snowmobiles and ATV's they could change this game to Polo.

All this talk about colored golf balls reminds me of an old joke about 4 guys playing golf in the winter. The first guy used green balls, the second used red balls and the third used orange balls. They asked the fourth guy if he had blue balls and he said "No, I'm wearing thermal underwear."

They have "exploding" golf balls too...that could be hilarious!

Hate to break it to ya Yoops, but Tiger is now known as "Cheetah". Swing that club and enjoy the taste of spring!

I use to practice tennis in handball courts and my dog, Crisco, use to sit next to me and get the tennis ball for me if I missed or a bad shot did not come back to me. Just could not get Crisco to put them back in the bucket- they always got dropped next to the bucket. Oh Well!! it was fun to have him out there with me.

That golf looks like fun.;O)

CCHS is now number 4 overall.
