Chris Gariepy takes us along on a recent snowmobile ride that he took with a couple friends. I'm not a snowmobiler myself, but I know a few folks that are and a pole line like the one shown in Chris' pictures, is something they all seem to enjoy running. I DO know from 4-wheeling, that the pole lines are fraught with obstacles and steep banks to maneuver at times. I'm guessing that's what many snowmobilers enjoy... the challenge it can present and the accomplishment of successfully making the run. Ride on!

Such fun! Thanks, Chris, for these pictures.
There are a lot of snowmobilers here now taking advantage of what our beautiful Keweenaw has to offer in this regard! Great for the economy!

I haven't been on a snowmobile in ages. Wouldn't mind trying them out again.

A lot of the miles on our snowmobile odometers are from the wonderful Keweenaw area! A great time and area for some super-duper snowmobiling!

Remember Sharon Smith's beautiful Copper Harbor sunset picture? It was later on EPOD and is now in a small collection of viewer's favorites for the year; you can vote for the absolute favorite by going to www.epod.usra.edu and scrolling down to the sentence about the favorites. (Guess who I voted for?)

Just be careful. Respect the machine you are riding on! It's great fun...as long as you respect your machine and what it can do FOR you, as well as what it can do TO you!

Life CAN change in the blink of an eye!

Be well riders!

One of our newest sponsors is Lonely Woods Estates It is a short term seasonal vacation rental just outside of Hancock, Michigan. Keep it in mind if you need a great place to stay for a week-end, week or month. Newly built in 2009. It even has a heated garage to work on your snowmobile. Year round rentals.

" the guy is right walter lang created woody woodpecker "

I don't know what guy you are referring to Walter P, but Walter Lantz created Woody Woodpecker!

In case anyone missed it, here's a link to the the place where you can vote for the best of 2009.

By the way, I see that Sharon has a number of outstanding pictures among the Earth Science Picture of the Day collection. For those of you who might have missed them, here they are. (Although only Spectacular Copper Harbor Sunset (#5 below) is a candidate for Best of 2009):

1. June 22, 2007 Copper Harbor Pillar
2. February 12, 2008, Copper Harbor Virga
3. September 09, 2008, Pillar Above Brockway Mountain
4. November 18, 2009, Spectacular Copper Harbor Sunset
5. December 18, 2009, Snowdrift on Keweenaw, Michigan

Outstanding! Beautiful work, Sharon!

That looks like SO much fun! I miss those days. I was a kid the last time I was on one.
