By BJmilford (Bjmilford) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 08:01 am:

Detout HARBOR...oops

By Greta Armata (Gretania) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 08:13 am:

Detour Harbor

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 08:20 am:

On some web sites it's called DeTour Village.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 08:52 am:

On any good map of Michigan or even the United States, it is labeled as "De Tour Village"

I can not believe they are forcasting snow for Friday here. It almost seems like a April Fools joke 4 months early. I was coming in this morning and our DPS was warning drivers to be on the lookout for slick bridges and overpasses Friday morning; seems like a good idea to maybe stay in bed!!!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 11:40 am:

We used to go to Drummond Island perch and pike fishing. Have had some rough rides on that ferry. A friend owned the bar at Detour for several years.
Just home from my cataract post op check up. Almost 20/20! Every thing went well. December 15 I get the other eye done! Thanks for all your thoughts and good wishes.

By Cheryl Rozman (Cotton) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 02:26 pm:

Deb, hope your Mom is doing well.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 02:59 pm:

Thanks, Cheryl. They took her into surgery over an hour ago. We're still waiting. I pray it all goes well. She needed 2 bags of plasma before they'd even take her because her blood from the coumadin was too thin. She was nervous and so are we!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 03:16 pm:

That sounds great, Paul! I hope your good progress as expected!

Best Wishes to your mom, Deb, on her surgery! Sending my thoughts and prayers for a successful outcome and her speedy recovery!

Capt Paul - You have lived down there long enough to know that south Texans are not prepared to drive on any amount of snow or ice, LOL! And the Dept of Transportation does not even have a clue about salt or snow plows! It sounds like taking the day off might be the safest thing to do on Friday there with that forecast down there, myself! (We saw live video of falling snowflakes, in Dallas this morning, on TV, LOL.)

Here is an FYI for all the pastycammers who voted on Kaboom: ONTONAGON won first place in the playground contest. Great news! What a great Christmas present.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 04:28 pm:

Deb S...I'm sending your mother and you my very best via pastycam notes. Please inform us on how your mother is doing! Thoughts and care!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 04:32 pm:

Another wonderful Memory Lane review.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 05:56 pm:

Deb...I will keep your mom and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I hope all goes well.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:02 pm:

I'll be saying prayers for the three of you, Deb.

By Nancy DeGuire (Nancyd) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:17 pm:

Deb S. - I don't know you but I feel like I do because I read your messages every day. It seems to me that you lost your Dad not that long ago. I pray for you, your family, your Mom and for wisdom for the doctors who are caring for her.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:32 pm:

Congratulations on your cataract surgery, Paul, that is very good results! Hope the other eye does as well. My husband has had cataract surgery in both eyes and they're doing okay but he is diabetic and has had some setbacks. Had to have his third steroid injection in his right eye today, to reduce swelling. Gotta save those eyes!

By Tom (Tom) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:41 pm:

Paul:
Had surgery on both eyes about 7 years ago. success was so surprising. Took about 10 minutes per surgery.
I have one at 20-20 and they other??? somewhere closer for reading. Works fine.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 06:41 pm:

Lots of prayers and good thoughts and best wishes to Deb's mom on her surgery. ;O)

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 07:04 pm:

Deb, keeping your mom, you and Mr. Deb in my prayers.

By RCW (Rcw) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 07:27 pm:

Boy., I had both mine done about 7 years ago. Rather that than a tooth filling. Turned out great too

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 - 08:56 pm:

Hi RCW, WE finally got things back working after a power surge got all of John's electronics. What a disaster!!! Geez,I had my cataract surgery 20yrs ago.I was the youngest one waiting to be done. Deb, my prayers go out to your mom and you and Ron.

By Robert - CO (Halork) on Friday, December 4, 2009 - 03:39 pm:

I used to wonder why signs for Detour always said "DeTour Village" (and why they spelled it with the capital T), until I realized what would happen if you put up a sign that just said "Detour -->". Of course, the town would get a lot of traffic that way. :-)

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Friday, December 4, 2009 - 04:37 pm:

It seems I read somewhere a long time ago that was the reason the "T" was captialized, because motorists thought they had to take that route, thinking the road straight ahead was closed or something.
