On their way home from visiting the U.P., Deb and Mr. Deb (a.k.a. Deb and Ron Simons) drove through Ironwood and spotted this giant Stormy Kromer hat, so they just had to stop to get a picture for us here at Pasty Central. Talk about great advertising...you definitely know what you're going to find inside THAT store. This unique wool winter hat, not only keeps your head warm in the chilly temperatures here UP North, but it's design also keeps the winter winds from blowing it right off your head.

For more information, you can read a little of the history of this winter head warmer here: History. I also found a short video clip of how they're made in the factory right there in Ironwood, you can view that here: Stormy Kromer Factory Tour.

If you're interested in purchasing one to keep yours or a loved one's noggin warm this winter, you can find them for sale locally here in the Keweenaw at Copper World in Calumet. You can also order them from that same Copper World website page, if you know what size you need. They make them in children's sizes, too!

I got mine at the Surplus Store in downtown Houghton

Mazie received one for a gift! It's a little big right now but very cute! Surplus Outlet in Houghton sells them too.

Oh my gosh! Were those not hilarious! When we were driving by those, I told my hubby that we had to stop and take some pictures. We did go inside the store on our way back here, but we didn't get anything. While at Copper World, I did see the ones for babies and thought about getting our 2 little granddaughters each one, but wasn't sure of their size.

Anyway, love seeing the pictures here as much as we loved driving by! Those hats are great!

I would like to know if Uncle Chuck has one of these hats for hunting? They look pretty groovy!

The brimless Kromers are my favorite. They are a little bit more stylish.

As a cap wearer, a suggestion would be to make the cap size-adjustable, if possible.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 - 08:54 am:

That one is way bigger than mine. I have never seen a picture of that before. They tell you how to get your size on their website. I had to go there to find it since my Uncle felt I needed one when I moved up here. Mine is black though!

I have had more people around here compliment my Stormy than I can tell you. But Alex, I like that fact that it only fits me. If you make it size adjustable then someone else may take yours and we don't want that. And I love the brim on mine. It keeps the sun out of your eyes and the wind off your face in a blizzard. I think the only thing I might change is to make the ear flaps just a little wider.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 - 11:09 am:

David...I would never dream of taking someone else's hat. By the way, what size is yours? (and where do you keep it) :)

Alex......LOL!! d:)

Interesting, different, and unique.

Too funny! My Stormy is a XXL and I keep it in Colorado. You are welcome to visit anytime... If you do I'll take you on some very nice rides.

As an aside - I was sitting here looking at that huge Stormy in the photo and I had a stroke of entrepenurial genius (or it was a mind belch). But my idea was to open up a drive-in restaurant that uses those huge Stormy's as covers (awnings) over the picnic tables. Wouldn't that be fun?

David;
Thats a great idea. You could open a Checkers.
