Today's colors come to us from George Hoyem and they show the situation in fall color around the Keweenaw pretty well right now. Some places the trees are all decked out in the autumn hues, like the top photo George snapped somewhere along the Rice Lake Road outside of Lake Linden. Then other places you might find only a splash of fall amongst the leaves that are just beginning to transform from green to yellow, like the second photo George captured in the woods around Bootjack. I haven't been out driving around much myself, so I'm not sure what's happening colorwise, except in my own backyard. But many of the "color watch" sites are reporting that "peak color" will be in this coming weekend and into next week for the Keweenaw. Come on everyone, get out there and get snapping!

Great autumn pictures. We'll be there this weekend to see if for ourselves!

We'll be in the UP too, but I won't get any further than the
Ishpeming area. The guys in our group will take in the Keweenaw
while the women are at a baby shower.

Going to the Porkies just to see the color. Hope the leaves hang on that long. Can hardly wait.

I am hoping the weekend is nice to enjoy some color too. They are coming out pretty fast and I don't want to miss it.

On 9/29 I was near Michigamme and the color was at its height. On 10/4 I was in Copper Harbor and there had been very little color on the drive up through Gay, Lac LaBelle, and Medora and on the way home on the 5-mile Point Road. At the Country Store at the Harbor, Barb Foley had commented that the color at the Harbor usually will be at its height a week after the leaves fall at Michigamme.
Still, the green shows off the color beautifully as today's photos show.

Mother Nature dresses up in her finest in the fall, especially in the UP.

I will be up there too! The weather forecast isn't too good. They used that nasty 4 letter word that begins with S___!

By Sharon I. Smith (Sharons) on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 11:11 am:

I was down to Houghton and back to Copper Harbor yesterday, and the color here is going to have to go some to peak this weekend. There's still a lot of green, even in the "higher elevations" away from the lake.

That is one thing I deeply miss about living here in SE txeas, the fall colours. Here, everything just goes from green to brown and that's it; no firey reds, golden yellows, burnt oranges, etc... Although right now everything is still green and it feels more like summer than October!! As hot/humid as what it has been the past week, I woulnd't mind of bit of that nasty four letter word Bob speaks of. I am very much hoping the aspens are still out when we're in the Cascades in two weeks....

Speaking of the "S"-word that shall not be spoken, I believe that some of it is in our forecast for tomorrow night...

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 03:55 pm:

BEAUTIFUL PICTURES! I love Autumn colors very much!

By Richard J. (Dick_fl) on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 06:09 pm:

Well, thanks for holding the color until I got up here to Milwaukee. First time seeing color in 40 years. No more Florida!!!!! Back in God's country. I'd be in heaven if I were in the Yoop but Milwaukee is the next best thing for me and I am content.

By Annie (Cabinfive) on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 08:48 pm:

Those colors always energize me! Nature's last hurrah before the
Winter slumber. Wish I was there.
