Name a Point and a Park seen in today's decade review.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, September 12, 2009 - 07:26 am:

Good morning!

That would be Hunter's Point and Copper Falls Park!

Have a wonderful weekend!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, September 12, 2009 - 07:33 am:

I guess I didn't notice Palms Book State Park on my first viewing. Could somebody tell me where that is?

I do love Copper Falls Park, though. My husband will love the mouth of the Montreal and Weathered Wood. Any place that looks as if there might be fish there, he's there!

Deb,

Palms Book State Park - Home of Big Spring (Kitch-iti-kipi)

Go 6 miles west of Manistique on US 2 to Thompson, take M-149 north for 12 miles to the park.

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Saturday, September 12, 2009 - 09:00 am:

Good Morning - Palm Book State park is also known as Kitch-iti-kipi, Big Spring park. It is about 10 miles east north east of Manistique.

Kitch-iti-kipi is so cool. The size of the fish at the bottom of that pond will amaze you and the water is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom. Awesome! It's worth the price of a state park day pass. Plus, there's a cool gift shop there too.

Deb (and everyone) the Palms Book State Park is one of my favorite places in all the UP! You think you could see down into the bowels of the earth! So clear and calm! Can't believe for all the trips the Simons have taken to St. Iggy that you've never stopped to see this wonder!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Saturday, September 12, 2009 - 04:32 pm:

I can imagine that a lot of folks aren't even aware that Kitch-iti-kipi even exists. I only just heard of it a couple years back from a friend here in Lansing who was looking in a tourist book. I lived in the UP until I was an adult and never heard of it. But it sure is cool once you've discovered it. Makes you wonder what other gems await in the UP if you veer just a bit off the beaten path.

It's strange. Yesterday an older woman came into the bank that I work at and was all excited because she was going to a Twins game with her younger grandson. Now, this woman is in her 90's so it's quite something that she's able to do this. I told her that normally I'd be hoping they'd win, but being a Tigers fan I couldn't hope for that. She asked why I was a Tigers fan and I told her I was born and raised in Michigan. She said she was born in a town called Cooks, MI. And she talked about the Big Spring. I had no clue where she meant and it's so strange that it's being talked about on pasty today. I now looked it up on our map and can't wait until I see her the next time. She said she moved away to MN when she was 3, though, so she is a Twins fan, not a Tigers. I told her I wouldn't hold it against her.........great older lady.
