Today's shots are from a location that I've never visited, but after checking out what Aladino Mandoli supplied us, it's been added to my list of places I'd like to explore. Dino says this is the Cataract Basin and Falls area, which is actually runoff from the power company dam in Gwinn. That's the Escanaba River rushing toward the camera in the top photo, with the remaining shots along the way and more iced up. It's amazing how the water can freeze around rocks and over the top of the falls, yet still have water running under it and around the icy obstacles. Then in the last photo, there's quite a build-up of frozen falls right in the middle of the flow. Dino said these photos were taken near Cataract Road, which is just north of Gwinn, off M-35. Nice job, Dino!

That last shot reminded me of a mini-Tahquamenon Falls:

Tahquamenon

Beautiful photos that speak of spring and the releasing of waters. I noticed the two ads under the last picture: one for Italian ice from Florida and the other 'Orlando Ice Damage' repairers. Ice damage in Orlando? Maybe I dont feel so bad about never taking a warm winter vacation.

Actually, the top and bottom photos are of Tahquamenon Falls! Must've mislabeled them...sorry. TGIF

If knowledge is the goal, with the albums on 'Pasty Cam' the arena for exploration is limitless.

Aladino, Great job capturing the beauty of God's work, I love them!

Excellent!

Aladino, those are some very well-done photographs. It looks like things are running nicely over there!

Also, did anyone else read that the big lake has frozen over? That was a big surprise for me (since I was out snowshoeing at Hunter's Point on Saturday, and saw open water not too far away in the distance). But apparently it is to blame for our lack of snow lately.

Hi
My first thought on looking at the bottom picture was "Tahquamenon Falls". Then I read the text that said it was somewhere else...and then the correction that said it was indeed Tahquamenon Falls. Nice exercise of data correction first thing in the morning. ;>)

Beautiful pictures regardless.

While this is 3 days out of date this site has a photo of lake ice as of 3-3-2009

Cool photo Richard, thanks!

If you click on the photo it will download a larger version and that too can be clicked on to get the full size photo. On the full size you can make out blurry areas to the south of open water and that would be lake effect snow (some moving in toward the Munising area for example)

Really interesting photo, Richard, Notroll, thank you!
