Oxen have rarely appeared on the Pasty Cam. In what year did a couple show up on this day?

Good morning!!
First Post
The daily prize was a little late arriving this morning. I was trying the new Chrome browser from Google, and ran into a few complications. Positive initial impression, performance looks good. I'm sure they will refine the install.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, January 9, 2009 - 07:53 am:

GOOD MORNING ALL! Looks like Mother Nature is going to give us some more snow, with a prediction of up to 5" by noon tomorrow in Michigan's Capital City. I'm ready for spring. How 'bout you? The up side here is that it's Friday and we got paid this week. Woo hoo!!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, January 9, 2009 - 08:01 am:

And from what I hear Cindy, anyday one gets a paycheck from the State of Michigan is a good day!! ;-)

After staying up way beyond my bedtime last night watching football, I'm starting my weekend at 12 noon today. Supposed to be near 80 here today, but a nice cooldown comes tomorrow and from I hear, a big arctic front next week. But then again, can we really believe the weatherman (or such is the case here, the weatherwoman)??

Does anyone know where the 2002 picture was taken? (Porcupine Mountains maybe)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, January 9, 2009 - 08:29 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! Happy Friday!

It's kind of nice to be too far north to get a lot of snow out of this storm. It sounds like we may not get any here in Mid-Michigan, which will be kind of nice, since they messed up the forecast with the storm earlier this week. They were talking about we would get 1 to 2 inches, maybe 3 at the outside, but we got almost 5 inches here, oops! The storm just sat on us here, while it was intermittent for the rest of the area. A fluke of nature, perhaps?

Capt Paul and Dr Nat: I'm curious what you think about the current/recent swarm of earthquakes in the area of Yellowstone National Park's caldera? That seems to be controversial in the geological world, with some geologists warning of impending doom, a giant volcanic eruption that could cover 1/3 of the US, or something (that side is demanding an immediate evacuation of Yellowstone Ntl Park & an area 200 miles around the caldera, apparently), while others are saying it's no big deal, there won't be an eruption for a 100 or perhaps thousands of years, so the status is still green light? From the little I've been able to see, it sounds like they are all (both sides, or all sides, or something), long on theories and a lot short on data, with much data that should be gathered, perhaps? I'm curious as to your impressions? (Happy Belated Birthday, btw, Capt Paul! I hope you all can celebrate it this weekend!)

Hmmmm, I'm beginning to wonder if Charlie slipped us a mickey and this is a trick question today?????

Don't worry Marianne, we will answer your question later today. I'm at work right now, but I have my theories. Don't be surprised if it gets answered in the various topics area though.........

The Keweenaw convention and visitor web site snowfall totals as of today are Keweenaw Co.156"and Houghton Co. 145".That is a lot of the white stuff.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, January 9, 2009 - 02:48 pm:

Marianne (and anyone else interested), Dr Nat and I have posted an answer to your question in the geology thread, so have a look there....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, January 9, 2009 - 03:12 pm:

Thank you, Dr Nat & Capt Paul for your answer to my question! That is a good answer, for an inexact science. I do wish that they would gather a whole lot more data, though, so we had some more information to consider. :-)
