No snow on the ground this year for Trick or Treaters. Just some slippery wet leaves.

By maijaMI on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 12:54 pm:

Tonight the witches fly and the beggars come to your door.

Anyone remember when "trick or treaters" were called beggars and yelled, "Heeelp the poooor!"?

By joesyopper on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 01:03 pm:

Thank you Charlie for this site.
People out there; please read the "acceptable use policy".

By Louan-Elk Rapids MI on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 01:08 pm:

I don't remember the beggers, but in Williamston MI, where I grew up (in the 50's), they did take the trick or treat part seriosly. My family used to make the kids do a trick before treating them to candy. A kid would have to sing or dance or tell a joke. My Aunt Rose played the piano and at least they would make you sing,"Happy Birthday." What fun!

By danbury on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 01:34 pm:

I'm curious. What exactly happens when I hit "Create New Conversation"?

By Ron Hanson Washington on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 02:07 pm:

Thanks Charlie for this new addition. I have wanted to ask the good folks in the Copper Country a question for some time but it didn't fit with the Todays Picture format.
I would like to know if any one could give me some information on 2 friends I knew back in '56-'57. Bob and "Babe" Zimmer. Bob worked for UP Power and Babe was a route man for Bridgeman-Russell ice cream. Both belonged to the Methodist church and were Masons.Thier father was a retired engineer from the Copper Range railroad( I think). I would really like to hear from them that is if they wish it.
Thank you.

By try it ....you first on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 02:26 pm:

Danbury I got brave and clicked it.You can enter a new title and I guess it starts a new topic heading or title to start posting thoughts under. like "Halloween" did above ..

By Down State Dave on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 02:56 pm:

kool idea Charlie, this alternative page. You guys walk a fine line beween necessary censorship and allowing people the freedom to speak their minds without infringing too much on other peoples' taste.

Keep up the good work!

By Yooper with permission on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 03:02 pm:

Howdy! Yep, it's me again.. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!

Yooper:
You still haven't answered the question as to why. WHY, WHY ,WHY?

By Carole on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:03 pm:

Yooper (with permission)............I for one enjoy all your smiley icons. Puleeeeeeez keep it up, we all need something to forget the crazy, fast paced world that we live in, even if it is just for a fleeting moment.

By yoi on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:07 pm:

Some ask why some say why not..
get well soon yooper!

By Lw Alger co on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:10 pm:

By yooper supporter on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:29 pm:

joesyopper: because it is fun.

By someone who cares on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:33 pm:

Yooper, send us your e-mail address so we can send you some e-cards if you're bored and recouperating.

By Yooper on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:42 pm:

joeysyooper: Because I am 14 years old

By Yooper on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:55 pm:

joesyooper: If you are asking me why I post the graphics, my answer is.... why not post them. Why do you post just to ask me why I post? Have I committed a crime? Are they really that annoying?

If you read the odds and ends page from Saturday, it clearly states that anyone can post graphics on ''what's up''. Guess you will have to scroll past any graphics that you see. Peace to you. :)

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 04:57 pm:

So, danbury, will you be trick or treating tonight?

By yahoo in flatland on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 05:00 pm:

Where does the acceptance rules apply to smiley graphics? It doesn't. It isn't considered spam by any means. He is just happy to be doing something useful! Please just chill and join the rest of us in being happy with everything HAPPY on here!!

AUP= acceptable use policy

By danbury on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 03:01 am:

Aw, sadly, don't be sad. Perhaps it was just deemed unfit, but wasn't that bad after all.:)
Got the fix on the CNC-button - will be interesting to see how it works out.
Not that many posts behind that by now.

By bootjack on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:43 am:

Look out Lions - the Packers are coming !!!!!!!

By Brad of Canton Mi. on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 11:22 am:

I was at Ford Field October 17th, for the Packers Lions game. What a game....love those packers.

By Alan, Kansas City, MO on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 12:38 pm:

Interesting how Brad and Tom's communication are from the same IP address, isn't it?

Brad/Tom you're clearly the same person, why use two names? Trying to bolser support for yourself?

By Lena, Minnesota on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 01:28 pm:

I love graphics! Very cute. A lot of postings on here aren't as interesting. Keep it up! Bah Humbug to those that don't like them. Funny, the person that said these people turn out their lights on Halloween. I remember some of those when I was a kid. I also remember the ones that gave out full size candybars or a quarter. That was BIG.

By Protowhatever, Calumet, MI on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 01:56 pm:

When I was little, it was an awesome thing to get a full size candy bar. I made it a point to do it one year to see if still was awsome to the kids. One little boy said, "Awesome...a big candy bar!" That made my day.

By Copper Country Girl, MN on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 05:22 pm:

Just a point - Brad/Tom could be two people using a router and 2 PCs. We have cable internet and a router and get the same IP address regardless of which room we are in. Granted, since both posts were removed you could very well be right... Personally, I'm trying to be less cynical (to keep me from imploding during election week), so I'm looking for the positive.

By Yoop on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 06:42 pm:

You don't have to use a router to get the same IP address. We have 3 computers and no router and all 3 IP addresses are the same.

By Jim,Tx. on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:32 pm:

Could the IP address listed above be Pasty.com and meaning a violation of that IP address AUP had been comitted? I'm not sure, but thats how I understood it.

By geeek on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:40 pm:

64.27.214.240 is hosted by max4-240.detroit.usabestnet.net. It's not pasty.com, whose DNS is 63.97.220.151, according to WhoIs.
