I'm going through it now kj! Does it ever end? Started almost 4 yrs. ago because of a total hysterectomy. Doing this all by cold turkey, no HRT. Brings out the real party animal in me, LOL!

Trust me- it does end. Couple more years, maybe. I also went through it with no HRT. With all the problems associated with that, who needs it? You'll be ok. And then you just get real mellow and only get upset once in a while. Like me, today, on the politics page!

I just finished Steve Hamilton's book SEASON LOST or LOST SEASON or whatever. It was good, but not as good as some of his earlier works...in my opinion.

Guess there aren't too many women out there that want to voice their opinions. Maybe they are all married to Archie Bunker.

Well Mrs. Snowman here it goes....Some who know me already know that I'm near the first anniversay of my leap to freedom. After being a hardworking mother and wife, 50 years last May, I left an escaltingly physical marriage. At first I didn't expect to be permanent but it's working out that way. Married at 19 like so many of my era, I expected to be with this man the rest of my life. For some strange reason I was suddenly and wrongly being accused of infidelity and being a poor wife. I've struggled since Feb. 2007 to financialy take care of myself.Not sure what brought this on but now I'm my own boss first time in my life! I'm content and at peace.And I'm very aware of how lucky I am to have some wonderful friends. But mostly I feel the hand of God supporting me. So that's it for now. Just turned 70 years old and boy is it scary.How about you young folks?

Ms Katie, I admire your courage and strength it took to get through the past year...and you did it! I'm certain there had to be some scary (financial) and difficult (lonely)times.
Unfortunately, I am not a youngster. Will hit 60 in May and not approaching it with a good attitude. I'm still healthy and active...just took up kayaking this past summer...but am slowing down and don't like it one bit.

Oh so true Mrs Snowman about laughter!! Sharing same interests is a plus also. While our daughter was growing up we spent our lives focusing on her love for her horse showing career for 14 yrs. Bob joined me in my snowmobiling craze, I always enjoyed riding his Harley, then I went one step further, 20 yrs ago I learned to ride and bought my own Harley, the driver's seat is better than the back seat! We also share a facination of having muscle cars. Been a part of our recipe for the past 33 yrs!

Once a Harley, always a Harley! My thoughts anyway. The one I currently own is my 4th, and they all have been black in color.

Janie, my first car was a GTO. The Mustangs used to eat my dust.
To this day I can still power-shift that 4 on the floor or that 3 in the tree.
Still enjoy going to NHRA races. Once a gear head, always a gear head.

Mrs Snowman...I got my first car in 75, I was 18 yrs old, a brand new black Plymouth Duster, I still own it today. Still has all the original paint and 90,000 mi. I met Bob after I got my Duster, he had a '66 Merc. Cyclone that was set up for and used in 1/4 mi drag racing, he would start it up in his parents garage and the dishes would shake out of the cubboards in the kitchen, this garage was detached from the house. His mom never cared for that car. Then it started when we married in 9/76 with a '70 Superbird, then onto 'Cuda's, 69 RoadRunners, I drag raced these and won many times, then several Shelby GT-350's and 500's, we showed these cars in shows from Omaha to Detroit, Mach 1's a Boss 302, a 442, Fairlane GT's, and on and on, we counted up one day how many car we have had since we met, and that total came to, and I kid you not, 183! They made a lot of fine cars back in the mid 60's to early 70's! Today we tinker with a Corvette, a Camaro,and for grins and giggles a '77 Ford Pinto, this one got past through the exploding rep! Ha!

Oh, Mrs Snowman, how I loved the "Goat". That was back when cars were cars (and gas was 35 cents a gallon). Now I have to drive a vehicle that can carry numerous dogs or a kayak.

Janie, I can only imagine the feeling of riding a Harley. I had my day with a Honda, which I know is no where the same experience.

Kathy P..I was inspired to learn to ride a Harley by a friend of ours, Jan Brown who is 70 yrs old today and still riding her Harley. But my hubby showed me how to ride, I learned to ride on a Honda Rebel 250 and a Honda Mini Trail 70. Never say Never.

I used to take my dad's Buick (automatic everything) station wagon up to the drag strip near here. He would have killed me had he known. It went pretty good, that car. That was when you could put $1.74 (mostly change)in the gas tank and use it the whole night.
Now I have a Saturn Ion which gets great gas mileage (boring). It is a stick shift, at least. Have to have a stick to get you through the snow.

You gals are SO COOL! I took classes and passed years ago to drive a cycle. We had a 1200 Goldwing. Put a lot of enjoyable miles on it. To the UP, Denver and Sunday morning rides mostly to Iowa and Wisconsin. I was so excited to get my own bike. But old what's his name kept putting it off and I never did get my own. One of my regrets in my life. I think kayaking would be another possibility if I had to do over again. Good for you Kathy P! Hey, Janie T., I understand that you live somewhere in eastern Iowa. Do you guys ever take weekend drives on the Harley over along the Mississippi? Here in Savanna, Il. the town is a big gathering place for bikers. Here at the B&B where I help out, most of our summer guests are couples on bikes. If you're ever this way for a ride, give me a holler and we can meet. If you ever hear about this town you might have heard of "Poopy's" or the 'Iron Horse", great bikers places but not all hard core. Think about it.

Mskatie, I live in rural Cedar Rapids, we have taken drives to Savanna/Sabula and to the north to Guttenburg areas and the LaCrosse areas mostly by car because we make those our Mississppi one day get aways and we bring our Scottys with us so they are not home alone for long periods of time. I have heard Poopy's is a popular place to ride! It's funny, most people find it hard to believe I ride a Harley, I still have the "straight off the farm" appearance, no tattoos, I don't have the skin tight leather fashion look. My Harley still has the quiet factory mufflers on it, by my choice. Harley makes the XL model the perfect choice for me to ride because it's frame fits my frame, I'm 5 ft.and weigh 112 lbs., I'm the runt of the litter! All my brothers are in the 6 ft. and my sisters are 5 1/2 ft. range.

No, and for the life of me, I can't remember where- I know it was north of where I lived, in Cary. May have even been lower Wisconsin. Oswego would have been too far away. Couldn't go that far and get away with it. And I was like 16 at the time and now 55, so it could be gone now.

Hello Ladies...I just discovered this thread. I love it. I'm not a biker, but I can do most of that other stuff...drive a stick, throw hay bales (back in the day), paint the house, bring home the bacon (by myself) and fry it up in a pan (usually don't though...too many calories), and when there's one in my life, make a man feel like a man ...I can do the typically girl things too like cook and sew and dance. In fact, my passion is dancing. I started ballroom dancing in 1990 and have since moved on to salsa dancing...hot, hot, hot! I even teach beginning latin dance. Too much fun...the most fun you can have standing up. ;-)

Now you've got me thinking. Looking at a map and at dragstrips, it may have been Union Grove, but it seems like it was closer. So maybe it is closed and that's why I can't find it. Don't know. All I know is that Buick could beat anyone off the line (at stoplights) and that was why I took it up there. Didn't win anything there! That was before speed limits on most roads around here. I used to be able to make it to my sister's house in 13 minutes-over the river and through the villages, back roads, baby. -12 miles, Mapquest says 28 minutes. Never called home as soon as I got there. That would have been trouble. Hee Hee. Wheee!

Cindy, nothing wrong about a gal tossing bales of hay...I'm still doing that today, having 10 horses and despite back surgery almost 6 yrs. ago! When I was a kid I used to ride the bales up the elevator into the hay loft of our barn...can you imagine kids doing that by todays upbringing standards of kids? :)

Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably a good thing I never got a bike. Probably would've been dead by now.

Janie T -- we didn't have anything as modern as an elevator. We had to throw everything around by hand. I must have been a lot more fit back then. In fact, we did most of the hay loose until that barn was full and then baled the rest.

k j...4 little do's that Bob and I use when we set out on road trips on the Harleys...We ride the back roads or county roads, the less traveled ones, more scenic....never ride in big cities...wear helmets, and say a little prayer for guidence and protection!

My fondest "gear head" memory; The year, 1968, the car, 1967 Corvette with a 427, 4 speed and a low rear end.
Traded my "Goat" with my boyfriend for his "Vet", just for the day. It was my birthday and I was feeling good. Was headed toward work on the expressway, of course, I was speeding. How could you not in a car like that? State Trooper pulls me over, yikes, asks me for my D.L. I hand it to him, he says, "Happy Birthday, please slow down!" No ticket, no warning, no nothing. When he pulls off the shoulder and leaves, I resume my "gear head" ways. Those were the days, weren't they ladies? We all had a need for speed, made us happy, eh?
There's nothing like being "Queen" of the road.

My ex and I went to Colorado from Chicago, for the weekend once, when I was 19. We were doing about 100 in the middle of the night, when all of a sudden a car comes racing up to us. As he blows past us comes the words, "Please slow it down to about 85". Cop, on loud speaker.

I feel the need....the need for speed.

Now I drive a 2004 Ford F-150 4x4. She's a good girl and has plenty of get up and go!

All right, Mrs Snowman.
I drive a '03 Vue, a cute red one. I needed fuel economy and dog room when I purchased it. It holds my kayak and is reliable; however, it does have it's limitations.i.e. it only tows 1500 lbs.
The neighbor has a '08 Hummer pick-up. What a cool vehicle. She bought an '08 Porshe Cayenne in July, but after the first snow that went bye-bye.

My daily driver is a "98 Pontiac Bonneville that we bought sometime ago, and Bob's daily driver is a '91 Chevy Baretta GT, that we bought before the Boooonville, and we have the "stump-puller", we bought as a yearling, a '97 Silverado K-2500 extended cab 4X4. We can't replace them, they just won't die! They all still look like showroom condition. In '78 my dad bought a new Chevy truck and drove that thing til "88 when he fell ill and passed on, that old truck had 428,000 mi. on it. The engine was a 454, a stock car race driver bought that truck to rebuild the motor for his race car.

One of my all time favorite cars was a 1958 silver Chevy, 396, 411 Posi, 3 in the tree, Cragar mags and Isky 505 Cam. Those sure were the days. I still have a need for speed.

My all time favorite car was my Datsun 280ZX- 5 speed on the floor. Can't remember what year it was, cause I had 2 of them- one was for parts. Did NOT ride well in snow. Spun 360-2 different times in that car. A little scary. But oh, when the weather was nice.....I did get a chance to drive a number of foreign sports cars when my ex and I lived in Florida and he worked as a mechanic at the foreign sports car center. Lamborghini, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Jensen Healy, Lotus, MG, Mercedes, Jaguar, etc. He would have to do a "test drive" after he worked on them. And, so would I. It was fun and scary, just because there would have been so much trouble if something had happened. But, hey, we were young and stupid and invincible, so nothing did. He had a souped up Super Bee that he drove. One day I drove it and forgot to put on the brake and (left it running) and jumped out to run into the house for something and it started going down the road and the neighbor had to run after it and jump in and set the brake. Oh, boy. Didn't drive that car too much.

Something kept going thru my mind and I just checked you guys personal pages. You two...Kathy P. and kj are both from Marengo. Know each other? How curious is that? Well goodnight for now.

How perceptive, MsKatie. We not only know each other, we also share living quarters. But I assure you we are two different persons with our own approach to life; hence, we both have our own sign-in.

Yep, she's my roommate. She is actually the one who introduced me to Pasty. She used to go on it at work. At that time, I had to use the computer at the library cause we didn't have internet. Then she retired, we got a new computer, we got internet (dial-up which waasss sooo slooow). Then last year we got a dish. Now we're cruisin right along. Feel the need for speed.

When Bob and I had our '68 Shelby GT-500 we were always appointed to the lead position of the caravan of other car show folks heading to car shows because that Shelby had the rare factory Ford 427 side oiler big block that was only capable of driving 100 mi. per tankful, the ladies loved it because it meant plenty of pit stops! Only 50 Shelbys were ever produced with that 427 engine. Some lucky kid's dad bought that car for him in Chicago for a high school graduation gift.

Another car show moment..I had a'71 Mustang Mach 1 entered into a World of Wheels car show,the group Sha Na Na was the entertainment and Bowser sat in my Mach 1 for publicity reasons and left a permanent grease stain from his hair on the headliner. Kind of neat and kind of gross too! I won the 2nd place trophy.

That must have been so cool. And, yeah, yucky at the same time. Bowser was a favorite.

The high light of my life was when I got to see Shirley Shahan at the 1/4 mile. She blew her opponents off the line. I was so impressed. The guys booed and hissed and the women went wild.

Howdy all you hardy ladies. I see nothing's been added for close to 2 weeks. I bet it's all this #^$%&(* cold weather and snow in my area. We're all huddled down keeping warm? I can't remember being this desperate for spring in years. Maybe the Christmas school vacation when all 6 kids were home and our one and only television (mind you black and white) went on the blink. Only good thing was nobody was sick if I remember.Used to like winter when I was younger, ice-skating, toboganing etc. But now it's hazardous to walk to my car, cross the super market parking lot or clear off the 14" snow cover on my car. Always had a garage before. So how is everyone surviving these days. I'm waiting for some inputs. Drive careful...Ms Katie

Am trying very hard not to complain about this winter's weather, but enough already. I have numerous outdoor animals to care for and 4 birdfeeders to keep filled. It seems if I'm not battling the harsh elements; the wind with unbelievable windchill factors or shoveling my way around, then I'm trying to keep gates open by chipping the built up ice or fixing heated water bowls. Haven't found much fun activity.
Oh well, winter in the Mid-west, eh?

At least the neighbor is keeping the drive way clear with his Bob-Cat.

Well, spring is just around the corner. No more shoveling, no more slip sliding away, no more washing the salt off the truck, no more plowing the drive, no more wood fires, no more stacking the wood, no more complaining about the weather. I'm bored already.

Hey, Mrs. Snowman. Well, it took just under a month and now I just want to barf!

I get a kick out of going thru you ladies' car chatter, which was you favorite, how it ran, going to races etc. So here I am thinking about my first car....THIS SPRING! Seriously, I've never had much input when we got a different car, 50 years of that. Now my 1991 LaBaron is ready to put to pasture and I'm looking at what's out there and how much I'll have to buy it. I do have 2 of the 3 boys willing and able to help me find something. But it's kinda scarey taking that step at my age. Not even sure if I'll be treated decently as a woman customer especially if I start looking by myself. How about sharing any experiences you may have had.

My advice is to get a full size pickup truck. If you drive a lot and have to be concerned about gas mileage, that might not be the best thing for you. We know alot of people that really love the newer Impalas. They are a nice size car with good gas mileage.
Check out prices ahead of time and go to several different dealerships. If your are trading in your car, don't mention that until you have the price on the new vehicle.

Thanks JH. Probably won't be a real new car, maybe a couple years old. I'm not sure a pickup is my kind of wheels but do like driving "our" 2000 Ford. (That is what he has in his possesion). I also understand he has a '07 Impala. Kids told me that, never seen it myself. Wouldn't mind one myself. Kids say don't get a small one like "Neon" size, too hard for me to get in and out. I'll be better off with a midsize. All input of ideas will be welcome.

MsKatie; For Pete's sake don't get a "muscle car" unless you want to attract the studs. Hmm, maybe that's what you want????

I don't think you will have a problem with the salesperson not taking you seriously. I have not found that to be an issue in recent years. You have the $ and with the present economy, I'm sure they will welcome your business. Plus if you run into a not so nice salesperson...go elsewhere. I have even gone to another dealership of the same make and requested the car I knew was at another dealer. Just had a wait a few hours for the transfer.
You may be better off selling your present car outright rather than trading it in.
I would suggest you look at Saturn. I know it isn't exciting, but they are reliable and the repairs are few and inexpensive. I have found you get the most bang for your buck. I presently
have an '03 Vue, which I really love, with no expensive repair history.
Just make it an adventure...and happy hunting.

I second the Saturn choice!!! I had a Saturn SC-2, what a little tank! We drove that car everywhere even to Canada via Saulte Ste Marie, Mi. Very dependable and many sizes of vehicle choice to choose from. Good thought on not buying a new car, new cars depreciate fast, as soon as you drive them off the the dealership, also good plan to sell your current car yourself, a dealership will tell you it's not worth much until they have it sitting on their lot, then it's worth big money! Have to laugh about the "muscle car" Mrs. Snowman! :) Don't think there are many old dudes out there I feel is good enough for me and could live up to my needs. So Saturn is one of those I've given thought to. Also a male friend suggested something in the Buick line. The kids think a mid-size would be good and I think they may be right.I put a bug into the ear of a girlfriend that my present car could be a choice for her. They has no second car and needs either a ride for activities or waits til hubby gets home from work. And that gets old fast. So maybe it's a possibility in the future. Thanks for the good input you gals are giving me.

I'd get the Muscle Car. Maybe to tone it down a bit, I might even drive a Sebring for Sporting look, but a little speed and maneuverability. For the U.P. I would opt for a Ford Escape. It has Hybrid features in some, and the market does have a few older trade-ins at dealerships. Great on gas, and holds the road. It would be my choice if I moved back home. :)
When I bought my last new car.. What am I saying it was my only new car.... I told the dealer what color I was interested in, and I gave him three of my choices. I had already agreed on the car type and price, but at the end of the year sale only some colors where available. Only two things I would not budge on, it had to be a manual transmission and the interior was to be Burgundy. After numerous visits and phone calls. I traveled south a bit and went to a different dealer. Struck up a deal, put a deposit down, transferred the Red car with Burgundy interior and a 5-speed the next day from one dealership to another and drove into the car lot at the local dealer, blowing my horn and waving at him in his glass office. Decide what you can afford. See what the car is selling in the blue book. And take notes on all cars you look at. The dealer will take you seriously if you show him you take this serious.

HELP! Is there a gal out there somewhere that knows a cure for snoring? Just can't take it anymore. I toss and turn, I get up and pace the floors, I raid the refrigerator, I turn on the tube, I read a book, I drink hot milk, I take an aspirin or two, or three, or four, I just can't take it anymore. Oh boy you got the right woman here. I would wake myself up, even when only taking a nap! I read where it's really bad for your heart and lungs. Got enough problems with diabetes etc. So I had the sleep study done 3 years ago. Even tho hubby snored I didn't want to take any chance. They told me I was WAY PAST the limit on sleep apnea, stopped breathing completely for much too long. Altho I'm quite clastrophobic I now can't hardly sleep well without the machine called CPAP. It makes me take a breath when I'm suppose to. apnea is very bad for one's heart. If you broach the subject in a group you'd be surprised how many people need the CPAP or their spouse does. Go straaight to a specialist on sleep disorders and check it out. It's so worth taking care of. Really Mrs Snowman it is. Once in a while it's annoying but I feel my life is worth it. GO-GO-GO!

Hi girls good to see you writing again. Sorry but no muscle car yet. I have been cruising the car lots slightly of late. Talked to a young fellow who went to scholl with my oldest. He and I exchanged phone #. But he knows what I'm kind of looking for and not real soon yet. Tomorrow I do my taxes and then I'll know where I stand financially more or less. I'm in no hurry as this old clunker is doing me okay yet til I decide to take my first road trip out of state. Don't know when I'll attempt it tho. I have a very good friend who seems to be interested in my presnt car as a run about town for her. Gave her info so hubby and son can check it out. Pretty sure she'll buy it later this mid-summer after they come back from a 3 month visit to friends in Hawaii. Meantime I'll keep looking. Thanks for your interest.

Barbie has been gone 6 day's now to Lower MI. I have some frozen chicken parts and would like to make it for dinner tomorrow. How do I go about doing that? I don't want to get flower all over me, so frying I do not want to get into. I might burn the house down. How do I go about a easy way of having chicken tomorrow? I assume bake somehow. Can one of you help out, or should I just go to KFC? I thought it would be nice to be without my Lady for a week. It just made me realize how pampered I am, when it comes to meals. Anyone have a funny story what the house looked like after you left your Man alone for a week? Please if you can help me, I won't bother you Ladies no more. Chicken & dumplings sounds good to, but maybe out of my leauge Would be greatfull for HELP......... David,

That was funny, Mrs Snowman, but it sounds like it is true.

I am raising my sons to be decent cooks. My oldest son, who will graduate from Mich Tech in May 2008, started watching Emeril with me when he was pretty young, so he got interested in cooking. He is living off campus this semester, for the first time. I started sending him a recipe that I thought he would like, every now and then, hoping to get him to cook more and eat fast food less. He told me that he will never make one recipe that I sent him, "because it is too easy", not complicated enough! Gee, and I sent that one for times he was in a hurry, LOL! Oh well, boys should be learning to cook, too, not just girls! My sons are good cooks. They can grill chicken, steak, burgers, fish, and you name it. And, they can follow recipes. :-) My youngest son is even learning to bake homemade bread.

Looks like this thread is about over hey? Just thought I'd update my car situation. At the ripe old age of 70 I've bought my first. Looked around a bit but nothing serious. Then I drove thru a lot/dealer we've dealt with for many years ago. One thing lead to another. I had my nearest son Andy check this Buick I had a line on. He test drove it before I did as I live about 45 miles from that city of Sterling. Andy was impressed because it's in such good shape. The former owner used to work at that dealer and traded every so many years. It's a 'o2 Buick with 57.00 miles on it. Got the price down to what I could afford in my situation. It was the 26th of June so I don't know if end of the month plays into it. But for my first car buy I feel comfortable with it. Milage is suppose to be decent. I don't drive far often mostly this in small town.It's got some goodies on it like automatic start from indoors, set up for On Star but won't need that.
