Paco has done it again, he's taken his master for a walk in the winter woods and insisted on a photo of the fun to remember the day by. Joyce Tormala is one lucky lady to have an adventure companion like this smiling dog. How would she find all these good photo opportunities if it wasn't for Paco (or one of her feline friends) stopping to enjoy the moment wherever he may be. From the looks of his perch here today though, he better not back up any further or he'll go tumbling over the edge.

A true Yooper Dog :O)

Looks like he wants to play King of the Hill.

Paco, you look so warm and cuddly! Dogs are great!

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 08:19 am:

Hi
Paco looks like a cool dog (no pun intended) to have as your pal. Someday I'll retire to the northland and have a big furry dog and play in the snow.

Did the PastyCam have technical problems yesterday? I checked off and on during the business day but it was still the picture from Sunday.

Heard on radio 2 nights ago; There was an injured dog in the middle of the road & another nearby dog risked his life to drag the injured off the road!
ANOTHER; A mother and child were being robbed when a pitbull dog came and attacked the robber!
Makes me wish I had a good faithful dog again.

Dan...sounds like you long for the company of a good dog! Shelters and rescues are full of them ready to be adopted. :)

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 10:46 am:

I would love to get a dog, but the trouble is I'm gone all day long and during tax season it can be 12-14 hours a day. I feel it is just too long to leave a dog alone. Maybe I'll get an iguana with a drinking problem (a reptile dysfunction) :)

CHASE THEM DEER PACO!

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 11:33 am:

Alex, that's my reaoning as well...not that I plan on 12-14 hour work days, but, between working late and running errands I wouldn't be able to give the dog the attention he or she would deserve.

As to the reptile, very punny.

Ya know Alex, they have drugs now for that very problem......

Only someone with that thick of a coat could enjoy this weather; broke the old record of -7 at Houghton County Airport this morning with a -11.

What a happy, gorgeous pup Paco is! Joyce, what kind of dog is he? I've seen pics of Finnish and Icelandic dogs (i.e. Lapphunds), and he resembles them.

By Paul H. Meier (Paul) on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 03:20 pm:

Our hairy German Shepherds love the snow, diving it and rolling in it. Our not so hairy Bull Terriers have no interest. For them it needs to be near 32 and toys must be available.
Dogs have a sense of when things aren't right. I once had a big shepherd mix who loved everyone and would patiently take all the attention the little kids of the family could dish out. However, on three occasions when there was a real threat from another animal or person, he became a very aggressive defender of his family. You wouldn't think it was the same dog.

Our 13 year old golden retriever loves the snow here in Bootjack. He rolls in the drifts and it looks like "doggie snow angles". He comes in the house covered with snow---and then proceeds to roll all over the oriental rug. He loves the water in the summer and now has found his replacement fun for winter. His name is Mac but we call him Macky here in the UP>

I have several dogs. Someone (probably a hunter) shot one of them in the leg joint and the VET said no way it could be saved. I hate for him to be on a chain all the time, but he is no match for wild animals out where I live and he can jump the fence we put there especially for him. He's part Malamute and part wolf. I would have had him down but he has so much spirit I just couldn't do it. And he loves being out in the country. I just wish I could give him the freedom he needs. At least my son does walk him once in a while and he's too much for me to walk him. Pets are family! Beautiful dog in the picture!

I sure hope I didn't say something wrong. I notice my post is gone now. I'm sorry if I did, please forgive me.

Sandy - Perhaps you had 2 screens open with the same page, before and after you posted your first note here, giving the illusion it wasn't here. If that ever happens, hit Reload or Refresh in your browser. As far as I know, all postings on today's page have remained, although the reptile jokes probably gave pause to our moderator.
