To me, Jacobsville is Jacobsville, not Bootjack. Rice Lake is Rice Lake, not Bootjack. It's always been called the Rice Lake Road, not the Bootjack Road. I've always considered Bootjack to start not too long after LeBlanc's place and go all the way down the road, but not the turn to go to Jacobsville. It's always been called the Bootjack Road, and I consider all of the homes and cottages along that road, to be Bootjack. We went camping out there one summer, quite a ways past Dreamland, at a little resort. There was a little store not far from there, and we used to watch the South American go by. Now that boat was exciting to see to a kid.
Mary says: Funny you should mention the South American Deb, I just had photos of the South American printed from slides that my Uncle took in the early 1950's. It was just pulling up to the dock in Houghton near the old Cohodas Building. I'll scan the picture later and post it.
As for the Bootjack location debate, I didn't mean to start such a complicated geographical dilemma! When I said RCW (and the Mrs.) go south from Bootjack to Dollar Bay for the winter, I wasn't thinking about the actual location of the land mass in relation to each other, it just "seems" like when you leave Bootjack and head towards Dollar Bay, you're going south. In actuality though, RCW's "summer home" is south of Dollar Bay. When you look across the lake you see homes that are in the Point Mills area or south of Houghton, depending how far out in Bootjack you are.
I know, I know, FRNash, that STILL doesn't answer the question you asked..."Where 'exactly' is Bootjack?" :->

"Jacobsville is Jacobsville, not Bootjack. Rice Lake is Rice Lake, not Bootjack."
That would have been my understanding as well, Deb.
By the way, I see that the AT&T on-line directory is now showing "Torch Lake, MI 49945" (notably not "Lake Linden, MI 49945"), for addresses on Bootjack Road, for whatever that may be worth (not much, I'd guess).
