On this day in 2004 the Pasty Cam broke the news of the closing of the Hut, a tradition in the Copper Country since 1952. It just so happens, the Hut will open again next Monday, June 2, for another season of "dining in warmth and friendliness". General Manager John Gervais and his crew are at work to open the doors for a 7-day a week schedule beginning next week.

Good morning! These pictures were great! I especially liked the Porcupine Mountains one. It looked so serene. Thank you.

Since John is at The Hut, is he no longer working at The Waterfront?!

It is so nice out there today, I think things have even gotten greener since this morning.

GM - John is managing both operations, which creates some new economies and helps optimize resources for both locations. We are looking forward to having our favorite restaurant open again in June, and send John and his crew best wishes for a good season this summer.

Mikie, after tomorrow I join you in the adventure called retirement. I can hardly wait for it to begin. I hope to be on this site more often.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 10:24 pm:

Congrats Charlotte. It is great getting up when you feel like it and going to bed when you are tired. You wont have a hard time finding things to do. The family will keep you busy. Had a bunch of cancers removed from my head today so I am a little sore. Also nice being able to go where you want when you want to. Jimmie the fat white cat and I spend many hours bonding. He even is used to the shop vac starting. When I first retired he would run out of the shop. Now he doesn't even move. Somedays he is the only living thing I get to talk to. You will know when to get out of the house when the cat/dog or any other pet start answering you.

Hei Mikie, we have a neighbor who is 82 and has a cat. He calls to talk to people every so often because the cat just says, "Meow." :o) I help him with different things around his place. He likes company. Hope your surgery turns out well.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 10:54 pm:

The surgery is over I just have the pain now. That and a lot of scars on my forehead. Ken I take care of an eighty five year old guy too. He was in bad shape before. Could hardly walk. I have him going out and we do lunch Mondays and Wednsdays. He still is a little grouchy, but looks forward to going out to lunch.
