The picture from '98 reminds me how Eric at Toni's gave us some pointers in the early days on how to ship pasties. Our packaging and shipping methods have changed over the years, now at almost 400,000 pasties shipped to all 50 states.

Nice shots...especially the biker on M-26. That will be me in July.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 01:34 pm:

very interesting day in history today. Gasoline rationing of 3 gal. per week...we'd be shut down today. And am I the only one wondering about mega conglomerates? Standard Oil and DuPont at that time came under the anti-trust law. Now they just "coordinate"? Microsoft, etc....

???

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 04:23 pm:

You have a point Maija all the gas companies seem to be merging, remember when they broke up AT&T and now they are buying up all the phone companies again.

With gas as expensive as it is we will be staying close memorial day weekend, maybe we will camp in Copper Harbor.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 04:43 pm:

My colleague just said that she heard that gas will be $10 a gallon by the end of the year. Can you imagine? We could not even afford to drive to work. This is just ridiculous!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 06:03 pm:

If gas hits $10 a gallon, we may be looking at protests and riots which have never been seen before in history......

From what I have heard in and around Houston the past week, crude oil and gas prices may be dropping after July 4th, some even say gas possibly under $3 a gallon by fall; wouldn't that be nice?? We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 06:15 pm:

I'm hoping you're right Capt. If you are, I'll write you in for President.

Enjoyed the pictures shown today. When I was a kid, in the '30s, that veteran's statue was in a small park on the north side of College Avenue. About three blocks west of the of what is now the College Motel. Climbed on it many times and was chased off it often by the city police.
