Every now and then over the past 10 years we have slipped in a rare shot from places other than the U.P... Jonathan - the original Pasty Central photographer - was in one of them, back in the early years, a stop at Old Faithful. A Michigan Tech student at the time, he had provided almost 1,000 shots for the Pasty Cam.

Good Morning, Everyone! Spring is finally here, for real, in mid-Michigan! It is gorgeous, with the beautiful trees in full blossom, tulips, et al at their prime! And, the trees finally have leaves coming out on them! Yay! As we were driving home across the UP on Sunday, I saw the trees UP there, with their buds swelling. It won't be long until they open up, too!

Of course, we won't talk about the snow that started during the graduation ceremony, and lasted several hours, or about the snow and slush that was on the sidewalks of Calumet as we went to dinner at Carmelitas! But, during dinner, the sun came out, for the first time while we were UP there! :-)

Happy Birthday Evel Knievel, aka, Mikie DuLong!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 08:50 am:

Happy Birthday Mikie. I wasn't too happy about that snow Saturday, was my only chance over the weekend for yardwork and it was shot. Maybe this weekend?

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 09:00 am:

Thanks Snowman, but my birthday is on Sunday. Was rudely awakened by my daughter this morning. She needed the booster seat out of my car. I was born after my sister Prissila died. She was three. Mom didn't want anyone to touch me. She protected me through out my childhood. Along with my sister Mary Kay, they made sure nothing happened to me. Boy I sure miss my mother. My brother John, the smartest man in the world [his description of him, not mine] called me a mamas boy. A title that I wear proudly. This will be my 65th birthday. Even Jimmie will be at the party. Tim is always asking who is older, Precious or me. Even though her birthday is several years behind me, she is more mature. That is what the kids and Precious tell him. Hope to always think like an eighteen year old. Even though looking at the mirror seeing this old bald man looking back.

OOPS Mikie, should have listened to Cindy, she has stroke with the Birthday Fairy.

Hey, maybe you need to get rid of all the mirrors in the house like I did.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 09:49 am:

LOL! I know time can fly by fast, but I was sure Cindy said yesterday Mikie's birthday was in 3 days.

Anyone know when the Harbor Haus opens? I won't be UP until June 10, the day after school gets out, but I'm ready!

Capt Paul, I'm interested in any input you might have on the giant sinkhole near Houston? I think it is northeast of Houston?

Many thanks!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 09:27 pm:

DAISETTA, Texas (May 8) - Regulators continued monitoring a massive sinkhole which has swallowed up oil field equipment, poles and some vehicles since surfacing just outside the southeast Texas community of Daisetta.

The ground might have caved in because of the collapse of an old salt dome where oil brine and natural gas are stored underground, officials said. Daisetta sits on a salt dome, one of the most common types of traps for oil.

Speaking of Cap'n Paul...he and the good Dr Nat will be celebrating their seventh wedding anniversary on the 14th. If I was still married, that same day would be my 31st wedding anniversary. Wow! That seems like yesterday. Fun flies when you're doin' time....
