During the 10-year span of this daily glimpse of life in the U.P., in many ways it has been the drama of our lives, played out on a stage of remarkable beauty and historic character. When today's first card appeared in 2002, it was with a wedding announcement...

Back in the 70's my wife and I and our newborn son moved to Marquette, to help start a radio station up above the Daily Mining Journal building... the old WDMJ, which became WHWL. On the weekends we would put the boy in a backpack and go exploring south of town, out through the woods and along the old railroad tracks. The telegraph pole in this faded postcard reminds me of the poles along those tracks, which have mostly disappeared by now. We still have some of the insulators we found on the ground and the cross ties. No, they're not heart shaped.

Not far from that spot, and a couple of years later, a baby girl moved in with her family. You may have seen her on the Pasty Cam... not a baby any more, saying 'yes' to the proposal of that boy who grew up to become the original Pasty Camist. Jonathan and Katriina have set the date of the wedding (for those inquiring minds who want to know) for this August.

In case you missed the day
Jon popped the question
Their wedding later that year also appeared on these pages. While they still have a residence in Eagle River, Katriina Hopper, MD is serving at Yale in Hamden, Connecticut, and Jonathan continues in his role as Systems Administrator for Pasty.NET. Hard to believe it has been six years together on the road to forever, as Paul Harvey would say.

Hope your day is a good one :o)

Didn't realize Charlie started out at WHWL....one of our favorite stations. You certainly have the FM voice but glad your path was diverted to "pasty.com"
Happy Valentine's Day.....I'll always remember Chris on this day, it was her birthday.

I have a selfish request of all Pasty-Cammers. Our daughter Julie (Houghton Class of '91) gave birth to a baby with Down Syndrome in May. He is in our local paper for the annual Cutest Baby contest. Please consider going to
http://www.thenorthwestern.com/baby
and voting for Levi, baby # 31. You can vote up to 5 times per day until 11 pm (Central) this coming Monday. Thank you and Happy Valentines Day!!

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Thursday, February 14, 2008 - 11:50 am:

Today is our daughter's 18th birthday, her name is Amy Rose. She was delivered by c-section and when the doctor gave my wife and I an approximate due date of mid-Feb. I exclaimed; "you mean that we can pick the day"? Dr. Limback said yes and we both immediately said Valentine's Day of course. Her middle name Rose was very fitting and was also her grandmother's and great-grandmother's name. Happy Valentine's Day everyone in Pasty-land.

I voted for Levi, beautiful baby. He's got some stiff competition, though. Good thing my grandson isn't in the race...!

Charlie, did you now or ever work with Gary Bourgois (WB8EOH) from the Marquette area. Gary was a DJ for several Radio stations, worked for WLUC-TV, and for WNMU-FM and TV, Gary also ran STUDIO B the first recording studio in downtown Marquette. Gary had the voice for radio.
In his last years he was into satellite radio and ran "Friday Night Live" from this home.
Gary became a silent key on November 15, 2005

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, February 14, 2008 - 10:18 pm:

John -

I recall a couple of contacts with Gary Bourgois in 1976, because of our common interest in amateur radio (and, as I recall, pinball). We lived just a couple of blocks from the NMU campus. I honestly did not know of the rest of Gary's career, as we didn't have any other contact after we moved to Wisconsin in 1977. I didn't know of his passing. Thanks for the note.

My vote went to Levi! Good luck!!
