Hard to believe it was seven years ago Doug Smith and his brother Dennis took us sliding on the shore of Lake Michigan. All this month we've been revisiting some of our favorite Pasty Cam shots, heading toward our 10 year anniversary of a picture-a-day.

Over on the What'sUP page you will find a new experiment with our Pasty Cameo concept: a silent review of this day in the life of the Pasty Cam. All the way back to the beginning of 'big pictures'. If it breaks, I hope nobody gets hurt. Boy will Mary have some surprises (and extra work) when she gets back :o)

Great picture.

Looks like a far, distant lunar landscape.

Ahhhhh.....these Pasty Cam pictures just about always make me wish I were right there taking in the sights. This one is no exception. Very neat picture!

What other planet? This looks like a far away picture of somewhere here on earth.

By Steve Kaipio (Kipes) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - 09:50 am:

Looks like there should be a polar bear in that picture.

Planet Zeno, nice little place near Alpha Centaur. Lot of VW beetles there; according to the old ad on TV. Plow drivers use them to get to work in the morning. I can see almost see one now pulling around one of those mounds of ice and snow.

That looks like a good time.

By Little M (Littlem) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - 11:04 am:

that would be my favorite thing to do right now.

What a neat picture. I can't ski any more, but snowshoes work just fine. Wish I were there.

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - 12:11 pm:

Hi
I got all excited, thinking I was getting a glimpse of current ski conditions at my cabin near the Straits of Mackinac. Then I read first, it was Lake Michigan & not Lake Huron and then, that it was 7 years ago.

The forecast here is a mix of freezing rain /sleet/snow duirng the day followed by wet snow during the night. Sure wish the weather was like the picture--bright sunshine & the snow already on the ground.

By Dale Beitz (Dbeitz) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - 03:13 pm:

Feels like the UP here in Lansing! We're supposed to get 5"-9" of snow during the day Wednesday (we've probably got 3"-4" of that on the ground now), with an additional 5"-9" inches predicted overnight. The last time I saw 18" of snow in 24 hours was at MTU just after Thanksgiving of 1985, when a big storm came through on Sunday as the students were driving back UP north. One of the few times in the century that MTU was closed due to weather. Luckily I headed north on Saturday that trip, so I was huddled in a friend's dorm room making use of his alcohol permit.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - 04:11 pm:

Dale- lol, as long as you had the permit!! lol

By Snowman (Snowman) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - 06:03 pm:

Good boy Dale, gotta have that permit!
Don't wanna get a DWAP.

By David t Hainault (Davehainault) on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - 06:36 pm:

Hey, its Winter Carnival week; I'll bet there will be a boatload of DWAP's on campus (students trying to find the right statue to be working on, after wandering away to find the hot chili statue). Remember those nights? We had a bunch of snow today in NW Colorado, and now we're enjoying the ground blizzards from the Wyoming breezes. Looks a bit like an arctic landscape here too. Nice picture, fits the day perfectly!

What a wonderful Surprise to see this picture of my brother. It was 4 years ago Sunday that Den passed away and I miss him dearly. His son Justin and I just got back from spending the weekend in that very park where I took this picture. Dennis was there with us I'm sure!
