On this day in 2000 the Super Bowl was played. More than one U.P. resident had to take care of business before they could sit down and watch.

Good Morning!!

Hello from a blustery Ontonagon! Have great day.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 06:34 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! It's a Snow Day for most of the mid-Michigan schools today, and rightfully so. I would not want to see school buses running anywhere around here this morning, with the ice (flash frozen water on the roads from the rain last night) and high winds (still gusts over 50 mph), etc. They say that some 20,000 people are without power because of downed trees and the high winds. I am most thankful that we do have power, at least as of now! Congratulations, Pweed on your Early Bird.

I'm thankful I can hibernate today. One of the bonuses of retirement. Be careful you who need to go somewhere today. I swear that wind never let up all night,

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 06:55 am:

Good morning from Mishawaka, IN where it is so cold that School City of Mishawaka has closed for the day. Doesn't happen to often because our kids get to school the old fashioned way---they walk. With the temps, with wind chill, at 20-25 below zero not a good day to walk. We didn't get much snow after the downpour of rain we had last evening. Lot of hidden ice awaiting drivers and walkers alike.

Stay warm everyone.

Euw, can't see the bridge this morning.

Because we have been rich, powerful, lucky, and have never had to delay gratification of our desires very long, impatience has become a strong American characteristic.....
GROUNDHOG DAY is just three days away!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 07:40 am:

It's -20 outside with a delicate wind chill of 45 below. I think the sun is frozen...
Mr. Deb

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 08:03 am:

Wow--even da Tech is closed today because of severe weather! They really don't close very often.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 08:15 am:

No schools are closed in Genesee County like I expected when I went to bed last night. The nearest closings we have are Frankenmuth and Millington. The rain was pouring, so I thought that would all freeze and have the expected snow on top of it. But apparently the wind blew all the water away. So far all we have is the 50 mph winds. Maybe the snow will come later. So here I am at school, working hard.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 08:26 am:

Good morning! Boy does he ever look like he's having fun. I think I'll pass thank you. It's so cold you freeze in under a second. Believe me!!!

By Dunerat (Dunerat) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 08:47 am:

Mornin' all!

It's a page from The Savage Conditions Report out there this
morning. Half the time I can't even see a hundred yards.
Thankfully we have power. I had us all bring homework home
last night, so we're just gonna hunker down and have a stay at
home day. Patches the wild cat is in lounge mode; she knows
she did the right thing coming inside with us last night.

Say some prayers for everyone who has to be out in this today,
and for those who need shelter.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 08:55 am:

No school in the Lansing area today. My 10th grader was happy to go back to bed this morning while I got ready to come to work for Jennifer. Argh...

We didn't really get any snow, but the wind howled all night. I hope people bring their pets in during this really cold weather. I never understood why people have dogs and just keep them outside on a chain.

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 10:26 am:

Good Morning everyone! -5 degrees, blowing and drifting snow here in Houghton. Blizzard warning from Weather Channel. Visibility very poor, didn't make it to work today and I only live 10 minutes away.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 11:10 am:

All you can see from Sharon's deck is white, and we're due for someone to say "Who stole the bridge?" in Houghton!

By David S. (Yooperdfs) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 12:04 pm:

Wait a minute; what about the Global Warming impending doom scenerio?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 12:08 pm:

It's brisk out there, my morning went something like this: Listen for school closings, they made it simple just listed counties. Look outside and flinch. Bundle up, and then flinch when opening door. Shovel until fingers are numb, then go in and take shower. Bundle back up to take care of what didn't get to before (most of it) then shovel until face is numb. Go back inside and make my lunch to take to work assuming I will get out of my driveway at some point. Go back out and finish shoveling (i have the best neighbor he did the plow curl for me with his snowblower) Start car and let run a long time its 10:30 by now. Take son to friends and drive to work really slow because i can't see anything.

Good news is people are staying off the roads unless they absolutely have to go somewehere so no traffic.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 12:09 pm:

That'll be here in July!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 01:45 pm:

And then in July we'll all be complaining of the heat and humidity...sigh. What's a mother to do?

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 06:39 pm:

P&G, ARE YOU EVER INTENSE!

You need to listen to Snowman and Me! Chill!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 07:26 pm:

Speak for yourself, Cindy. I won't complain!!!! I HATE winter!!!
