My father in law Weldon "Bud" Obrien who passed away 10 years ago. "Dad we love and miss you so much"

In memory of my cousin Mike Klemett who passed away in October of this year. He would have been 35 on November 17th. Also Orlando Phillippi who passed away this passed week. I remember both of them with smiles and always kind words. Also in memory of my Mom who passed away 11 years ago on the 21st. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of her.

This past month has seen three friends leave this world. A dear sister-in-law, Nancy Moore. The truest Christian I've been honored to know, dear Marie Witten of northern Wisconsin. A fellow Winter Texasan and the toughest opponent in cards and games. And Hazel B,a fellow artist and another woman who lived her faith. Good bye dear friends.

Also thank you Donna and Mary for that stunning photo! Being at the right place at the right time.

Remembering my grandfather, Peter Normand, who passed away on November 11, 1983. I still miss him.

In memory of my brother George H. Watts who passed away on November 11, 1997. A great veteran, who worked diligently for the veterans and passed away on veteran's day. We miss him.

Remembering my grandfather, Joseph Butala, who passed away Nov. 5th, 1972 and uncle Ralph Tressel who passed away Nov. 1983. I miss them both.

Remembering my best friends Dad, Bob Trudell, who we miss a lot.

Remembering our parents, Norman and Helen Pooley, Ed and Sophie Kuusisto, our aunt Lyle Pooley, niece Karen Kuusisto, cousin Janet, our brother in law and friend, Wayne Hartmann and our buddy Nitz. We love and miss you all so much.

In remembrance of my dear wife Leslie Maxwell, who passed away this November 2, 2007 at the age of 46. Her long struggle is over and she is finally at peace.

In the deepest and most heartfelt way possible, I want to thank all of you who contribute to the Pasty Cam for the way you have sustained me over these extraordinarily difficult years. I’ll bet many of you have a pattern to your morning web surfing. I certainly do, and every morning the Pasty Cam is my last stop. I save the best for last. I take so much strength and tranquility from the sense of community here, the shared love of the UP and the deep appreciation for the simple, beautiful pleasures of family and landscape. Charlie, Mary, all your staff, and everyone who posts here...God bless you for making this place. You cannot imagine what a difference it has made.

Here is a long-overdue remembrance of an extraordinarily happy experience with Leslie, which we owe to all of you:

During the last few years of her life, Leslie began to make jewelry and created some incredible pieces in cast silver. In the spring of 2006, she ran across an article on the minerals and metals of the Copper Country and asked if we could take our summer vacation there so she could hunt for raw materials to integrate into her designs. In a heartbeat I made reservations at Fort Wilkins for the last week of August.

On August 29th, we’d started our day up on Brockway. It was a chilly, blustery, mostly overcast morning with the wind roiling up over the mountain and casting big surf on the rocks below. Still, the visibility was good and I had fun convincing Leslie and the kids that they were indeed looking at Isle Royal on the northwestern horizon. Then we headed on down the coast, stopping at Esrey Park to sit in the little shelter and watch the booming waves. Onward again, traveling the length of Great Sand Bay, then into the trees once more. “What’s that little place”, Les asked, always quick to spot fun along the roadside. I glanced over and there was the Jampot. I’d never been in there, but I knew it from this web site. In we went, to wait our turn amid the wonderful smells. “What’s a thimbleberry?” she wanted to know, and I told her we’d better pick up one of those little jars that outsell the others four to one. We got our goodies and clambered back into the warm car, the aromas of the muffins and cakes and cookies suffusing the interior. The kids giggled as chocolate smeared faces and hands, crumbs everywhere, but who cared? No utensils in the car, so Leslie used her fingers to dollop thimbleberry jam on her muffin; although she had studied for a time at the Culinary Institute of America, Leslie was stunned by this incredible new flavor. Mouths full, hearts warm, we headed on down the road, destination Allouez.

It was one of those perfect, perfect moments when all good things converge, and it is an indelible shining place in the fabric of our lives. You wonderful people in this forum made it possible, and I thank you for a gift beyond price.

As a humorous footnote, I never saw that little jar again.

My heart goes out to you and your young family, Christopher Beaudoin (Dunerat), on the loss of your young wife and mother of your children!!! I am so glad that you all found joy in Copper Country! I could not read your post today without tearing up. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your young family! Take care! The holidays and her birthday will be the hardest, especially for the first few years. Hang in there. Best wishes!

Please remember in prayer the family of Cheryl Taft,(my cousin). She passed away this past week after battling kidney and lung cancer for several years.

In memory of my uncle, Cliff Hauring.
August 4, 1932 - November 3, 2007

He was born in Laurium and graduated from Calumet High School. He worked for C&H and then the JCPenney store in Calumet. That was the start of a successful 33-year career with JCPenney. He transferred several times in this career, eventually settling in Atlanta, Georgia. He and my aunt Nancy often made the long drive to the U.P. to visit family and friends.

Thanks for the memories, Uncle Cliff!

And thanks to the folks at Northwoods Christian Assembly in Calumet who blessed us with a wonderful meal and fellowship after the funeral service. I can see why folks never really want to get too far from their Yooper roots.

God's Grace and Peace for Margaret A. Paulson who passed to the house of the Lord on 11/24/07.

Today Bob and I are saying goodbye to our 10 1/2 yr. old Doberman Pinscher, "Lucky Gingerbread Boy." As big hearted dog that he is, congestive heart failure could not be cured from him therefore leaving us to do but the kindest thing for him. Goodbye Lucky, thankyou for all your love, protection, and devotion these past years! love you always, Dad, Mom, Michelle, Jason, Brimley, and Brody.

Bobbysgirl and Bob, my heart goes out to you on the lose of Lucky! I know how a beloved pet can be a huge part of your lives, as we have lost some over the many years. Just know that Lucky is going to a better place, "across the Rainbow Bridge". You are doing the best thing for him. Take care, where he will be pain free.

Bobbysgirl and Bob, you will be in my thoughts and prayers today. It is so very hard to say good-bye to our buds that ask so little of us and yet give so much, but to watch them suffer is, also, very difficult. Lucky trusted you to make all the right decisions and you are making the hardest and kindest.

In memory of Pam Aukerman Brainard: a hero to all victims and survivors of officer involved domestic violence in Michigan, who we lost on November 4, 2007. Pam, you would be so proud of your sister Jen, parents, and friends who are making sure your voice is heard.

I'm remembering my Grampa Bill Keranen today! He lived in Copper City. He had (& has) a huge influence on me! I never sign my name without the W. for William!

In loving memory of my Grandma, Hilma Alatalo, a longtime Copper Country resident who passed away in Ironwood on November 2, 2007. She was Franklin township clerk and ran the post office in Paavola. She worked at Suomi college as well. May she rest in peace.

To Luckys owners.....boy he was really lucky to have you guys to care and love him so much. I hope you get another dog to fill that empty spot.......they give so much to us, ask for very little, and leave us always, to soon.

Special memorys of our uncle Robert E. Laplander 88 Originally from Woodside/Dollar Bay who passed away this November 15 at Houghton Country Medical Care Facility. I had not seen Uncle Bob for about 40 years as he lived in Arizona for most of those years where he was a Country/Western singer known as "The Arizona Rambler"

Remembering fondly our stepfather Robert Lee Smith, Clinton Twp. MI who left us on this very day in 1999. Forever grateful for all the things he did for us and gave equally to us his 5 stepchildren!

We still can't get over the unexpected loss of 3 of our dear companion pets in a short time of a few weeks this past September and October! It's just not the same without them. It was just like losing our children.

We are mourning the loss of our precious ten year old Scottie, Katie this week. Her aunt Meggie went last October. They were such a happy romping pair and we miss them. We are fortunate to have acquired a sweet little Westie, Sophie from a Scottie rescue organization last May.
The pictures of Brimley and Brody are delightful and remind us of happier days.

My Mother, Judith Pomazal, who passed away yesterday in Chillicothe (Peoria), Illinois.

For Lucky, Gingerbread Boy and all of our beloved faithful companions;

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side

Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I would like to remember my dad, Irving E. Dulong who passed away 31 years ago November 26, 1976. My Hero! Lots of love dad, and think of you each day.

Remembering my wife Lori who passed away 5 years ago this month. I love ya babe.

Remembering my Mom, Lillian (Nelson) Whitten. Also her sisters, Violet Anderson, Jane Bjorn, and Margie Weymouth.
Also her brothers, Russell, Art, Robert, and Cliff Nelson.
These children of John and Anna Nelson loved their roots in Allouez, Copper City, and Calumet. I was lucky enough to enjoy these areas with them and inherit that love.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (Nov. 30) - Evel Knievel, the red-white-and-blue-spangled motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over crazy obstacles including Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

Remembering my son, Andy, who would have been 43 this month. Miss you!
Also, remembering a former co-worker, Don Chizar who passed on November 9, 2007 after a brief fight with cancer. He was a wonderful friend and co-worker. He will be missed by those at Mishawaka High School and his family.

In memory of my grandmother, Viena Perttunen, who died 10 years ago today. She is thought of and missed every day. Also my cousin Craig Garlow who died 25 years ago today. He died at 19 years of age in the service of his country. He loved being "up north" and is now here forever.

Also in memory of Mary Ann Blake who died yesterday on the 15 year anniversary of her daughter Judy's death - now they are together again.

In memory of my Aunt Marilyn who passed this Monday. My favorite memory is from childhood when my Aunt Marilyn would quietly return to the kitchen while the other adults visited and help me do the dishes. She always smiled and had the biggest and longest hugs for everyone! God bless my seven cousins and all her grandchildren who are missing her.

My father in-law Jim passed away on Nov 11th…too soon. He
was a great man, a wonderful father to 11, a devoted husband to
Terry and a devout Catholic. Jim loved to collect things small and
large (ask anyone). Cars, boats, electric razors, pipes and pens
are just a few of his collections. That is what made him Jim. He
loved the UP. Every summer he would pack up the family and
take them north for vacation. Our vacations are a logistical
nightmare with just four kids. I don't no how they did it. Jim also
loved to cook. He made all kinds of exotic food. I can't tell you
all the stories I have heard from his kids. Beaver tail, octopus,
squid and fresh rabbit are just a few samples of his menu.
Regardless of what it was it was sure to be seasoned with garlic.
I always thought of him as a Mr. Magoo type. There could be
cars crashing in balls of flames around him or a bolt of lighting
hitting behind him. Never phased, he would plug along
unknowing of the caos around him. Taking everything in stride
is what was lovable about him. Jim will be deeply missed by all.

In memory of my mother, June Dolores Koski Houle... you've been gone a year dear Mom, I miss you so much. And in memory of our neighbor "Wild Bill", Bill Laskey... who passed away just before Thanksgiving of this year.

Even as the sun goes down
to end the light of day,

In memory of my sister in law Arlene Homontowski who passed away March 5, 2006 and my Aunt Dona Jeffrey who passed away Feb 2007.

I would to mention the passing of Ellan Roswell. in Spokane Wa. I met her Son, Bill and his wife Melody. through the Internet by taking pictures for them on thier Family grave sites here in the Twin Cities in Minn. She died from complications of Colon Cancer. Bill and Melody have become good friends of ours through this ordeal.
