Good morning!
First Post

The big football game Saturday afternoon between the Lakes and the Trojans at Lake Linden-Hubbell. Their records look similar. Who will be the favorite? It doesn't seem possible that the regular season will conclude Saturday. It has been great weather this fall for high school football. (at least locally).

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 06:26 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! Yes, our regular season ends on Friday with the big game with our local rival, too. Our team is guaranteed at least one round in the playoffs, so we have at least one more week after this one.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 08:26 am:

How about those Vikings?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 08:29 am:

Good morning! Is everybody happy with the Wolverines? They cracked the top 25 again. Who'd have thought after the dismal start they had? It helps that their new kicker can actually hit a field goal and make an extra point.

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 09:31 am:

I was impressed with the UK Wildcats this weekend. Now that was a nail-biting game.

Go Michigan!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 01:45 pm:

Good afternoon, already!!

Beautiful fall weekend here in Houston. We took the car out for a cruise Saturday night and went to our weekly cruise-in of about 400 cars. The temps were simply awesome and no rain for a change. Unfortunitely, the disgusting heat/humidity is back today, blah!!

Vikings??? How bout them Packers, eh?? 5-1; who would have thought that 6 games in they'd be in a tie with the Cowpods for first in the NFC?? And what about those Pats?? Looks like the 72 Dolphins could have some company by the end of the year...

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 01:47 pm:

Mr.Deb and Marianne, thanks for the words of encouragement, tomorrow's shoulder surgery has me a bit freaked out, I don't really care if I hunt this year, but it would be nice to be U.P. there with Marty and my dad Grampa Norm, and if I can't, Im sure they will make it w/o me. Thanks again for the well wishes.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 02:13 pm:

You're welcome, Uncle Chuck. My thoughts and prayers are with you for your surgery to go well and to be a success, and that you have a speedy recovery! We'll be thinking about you! Take care, and don't do too much too fast, as in follow the doc's orders! :-)

I can't see why you shouldn't be able to go UP there in a month, she says, without knowing more about what they are going to do to your shoulder. But, it might be better if someone else could do the driving for you. That's a really long haul to be driving with recent shoulder surgery. If you are a passenger, you can put a pillow or two under your arm/elbow to support your shoulder for the ride up there. I would think that would be ok, as long as your doctor says it is. :-)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 02:22 pm:

Uncle Chuck, No reason you can't be there, just don't climb trees or steep hills. Oh yeah, don't slam a gun against that shoulder for a few months. Mr. Deb

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 02:37 pm:

Ms.M and Mr.Deb, we're city hunters, actually we just like to 4-wheel and see what trouble Marty can get us into, We really like to observe the wildlife, not shoot it. My saying is, " let em grow, there's only limited numbers in the Keweenaw". How do you think my stiches would handle the cold beaver •••• at Keystone! LOL The only thing that might hurt the ol wing, is hauling firewood to keep GN warm, but then again, I know Marty would do that. I just don't want to miss a trip North! Plus, I can cook on the grill w/one arm!

By Snowman (Snowman) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 03:01 pm:

Best of luck to you tomorrow Uncle Chuck.

Take that trip, going UP heals all wounds.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 03:01 pm:

Uncle Chuck, e-mail me and I can give you some do's and don'ts if you'd like. Might be able to answer some questions, this is the second surgery on the same shoulder. Mr. Deb

By Trb0013 (Trb0013) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 04:10 pm:

My mother used to say "Time wounds all Heels" ;->

By Snowman (Snowman) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 04:25 pm:

My mother used to say "Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died."

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 06:43 pm:

Mr.Deb, Doc sez he's gonna give me one of those list, but thanks anyway.

Snowman- mother gives good advice. lol thanks for the well wishes, and I agree, a trip North is just what I need, but will see how recovery goes.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 06:58 pm:

Hey Uncle Chuck, you have to go into it with a positive attitude. The better your attitude going in, the better the outcome will be! You know, the power of positive thinking, and all. There is a psychological component to surgery and recovery, seriously. If you are apprehensive going in, then you should convey that to the nurses and your doctor. They need to know that. "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..." Sorry. Off my soapbox now. :-)

Just go into it telling yourself that you know that everything will go well, and this, too will pass! Best wishes!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 07:15 pm:

As in "I'm positive it's going to hurt when I start therapy on Thursday!"

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 07:25 pm:

Now, now, Mr Deb, you could have waited to say that until Wednesday. :-) BTW, they should give you some pain medication, there, Mr Deb, as they try to nip the pain as much as they can before it happens, as that takes less meds than trying to get it under control after it is out of control. Then, pain becomes a learned response, and you have to then deal with that.

Seriously, some hospitals give you the third degree to be sure you aren't depressed or apprehensive about surgery. I'm not sure what they do if someone is, whether they postpone the surgery or they give you different meds, or what. In fact, that should have happened with the hip replacement surgery of a prominent San Francisco newscaster not all that long ago. They did not postpone his surgery, and 20-20 hind sight said they should have. So, let's all send positive thoughts Uncle Chucks way...

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 07:44 pm:

Uncle Chuck, will be anxious to see how you make out with your surgery. My husband is having shoulder surgery on Friday. Let us know. Will be praying for you tomorrow.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 08:17 pm:

Marianne, I love you, want to get married, oh yeah, we're both spoken for (my wife would say, please take him) thanks for your advise, maybe Im a bit nervous, but don't tell anyone, Im a Finnlander, IM TOUGH!!!!!!!!!!LOL

Betty, thanks for the prayers, I'll let you know.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 10:00 pm:

How come so many are having these shoulder problems in recent years? What's going on?

Snowman: Your moms advice on the Drs. plants is way more then good advice for sure!

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 10:22 pm:

Hei Uncle Chuck, I've had surgery on both rotater cuff tendons. Had it done at Mayo's in Rochester. Both turned out pretty darn good! It's important to do the therapy when you get that far. Makes a big difference, I was told. Keep a good attitude and your SISU will carry you through. Hei hei.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 12:54 am:

Uncle Chuck, you should be resting at this time of the morning.Thinking of you in hopes all will go well with that.Be glad you live in the good ol U.S.A.and having it done.If you was on the other side of the Big Lake,it would go like this. Uncle Chuck- "My shoulder hurts when I go like this Doc." The Doc on other side of lake- "Well then don't go like that,Uncle Chuck." Russ,in Naples, FL.they have more MIR machines then all of the whole Country on the other side of the river from you has.Now that has to say alot eh? Fingernails on the chalkboard today once more,Yipes, goose bumps,I could use a pain pill.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 01:56 am:

By Snowman (Snowman) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 08:07 am:

By k j (Kathiscc) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 08:49 am:

Ok that's 2- how many more more do I get?

By k j (Kathiscc) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 08:53 am:

Oh, wait! I forgot to say something. Great pictures! Oh, and it's raining here and my dogs don't like it one bit. They only like it if the temperature is perfect- you know, low 70's with a bit of sun, not too hot, not too cold. Like Goldilocks. They want it just right.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 12:55 pm:

Up above me: You are joining the ranks of some, so many in a day's time! Well getting close to it,anyway.Opps a daisy,I don't want to sound rude,or hurtful. I come here for substance, not to be abused.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 02:43 pm:

Gosh, sticks and stones, huh?

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 06:07 pm:

Gee all in all, whatever, my innocent sincere remark for the good of most all here remains! Why is this shoulder problem gotten so prevalent recently? I had it, (no surgery) my brother-in-law (surgery) and so many others I know of around here. Are we lifting too much? Too much firewood splitting? Kinda like the carpal tunnel syndrome so many had too. ? Has anyone ever asked their DR. about this? I just hope everyone recuperates fine!

By Snowman (Snowman) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 06:20 pm:

Hope Uncle Chuck is doing okay.

The problem might be that the mind wants to but the body can't do it. Been there, done that. For me it was a matter of pride, can't keep a good man down even if it is a snowman.
