Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 09:49 am:

Mary Baril spotted a stop sign that had given up under the pressure of the recent winds we experienced here in the Keweenaw. Actually it looks like the sign just snapped off, but it still demonstrates the power of the wind. Makes you wonder if folks still stopped at this corner in downtown Calumet, while the sign was laying down on the job, pointing one way - down.

The second shot shows more results of the strong winds. Michael Keranen brings to mind something that most of us would not want to happen while we're inside, using the facilities, not to mention the mess that must have resulted. That had to be some powerful winds, to bend and flip these inanimate objects like this!

Last nite here in eastern Ia. had strong winds as well, and 5 in. of rain, our drought has been lifted. Just south of us grapefruit size hail and a tornado did big costly damages. A repeat performance is expected later today.

Heard on the radio today that the Big Mac is going to be on Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel. The show will be aired August 7th at 9:00 pm. They will be talking about the painting of the bridge. Should be pretty cool!

On November 1, the Big Mac will celebrate 50 years; that's probably why they are featuring it. This was, by the way, a four-year state project that was finished on it's proposed completion date.

At least no one was in it.

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 08:10 pm:

Cindy the actual celebration of the anniversary of the bridge is going to be July 27th-28th. I am looking forward to the fireworks over the straits. Any excuse to head upnorth is a good one for me. We are headed up on the 25th. Only 7 more days...
