She sent me six pasties from Pasty Centeral, now I want everyone to know who this saint is she is, Cindy Pihlaia Russell aka [gone2long] this act of generosity brought tears to Precious and my eyes. Thank you very much Cindy and keep on dancing.

WOW Mikie, what an act of generosity from someone who is going to be out of a job soon and doesn't know how she will survive. That is true friendship......

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, June 14, 2007 - 03:20 pm:

I'm SO glad you enjoyed your delicious gift. It is very meaningful to me to have the power to lift someone's spirits with such a small gesture. I am happy to help whom ever and where ever I can, whether I have a job or not, whether my future is bleak or bright, if it is within my power to do so. I always hope, too, that it will be contagious and the generosity and positivety will spread. Stay positive and keep your spirits up! We're all pulling for you!

By Michele Maatta (Mrmaatta) on Thursday, June 14, 2007 - 04:41 pm:

Well, Cindy, if you're going to be seeking employment soon perhaps that passed around positive attitude will come back to you in the form of something you need. I'll say a little prayer that it does!!! Way to make someone's day!!

Cindy What a great thing to do for the Dulong's. My hubby says HE LOVES PASTIES TOO> Just joking. Do not ever change the wonderful attitude you have. It is very rare these days.

Cindy, you are a wonderful human being. Have you seen the movie "Pay it Forward"? It reminds me of what you said. I hope you find a job real soon. With your personality, I'm sure it won't be difficult.

Good Morning from Florida...

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, June 15, 2007 - 08:12 am:

I still have the same job I've had for 30 years. The state was just threatening to lay us off and shut down governmental services as a way to balance the ailing state budget. They have discovered other means to balance the budget for this fiscal year. However, the 20 layoff days (without unemployment) that they threatened us with may become a reality when the new fiscal year begins on October 1. We'll see what happens when the other shoe drops. Thank you all for your kinds words. I have received more joy than I ever imagined by sending pasties to Mikie and Precious. Yes, I have seen the movie Pay It Forward and I think it's a great way to live. I have a saying in my office that I truly believe. It's like this: "PEOPLE TOO WEAK TO FOLLOW THEIR OWN DREAMS WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO DISCOURAGE OTHERS." :-D

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, June 15, 2007 - 08:29 am:

Cindy, You're one swell person! I'm glad you saw Pay It Forward because it just reminds me of your philosophy in life. Way to go!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, June 15, 2007 - 09:39 am:

Cindy, I still think you did a great thing for Mikie & Precious! Thank you!

And, thank you for clarifying that you still have your job, but that you might still have 20 unpaid days off in the new fiscal year, as I did not remember that you had actually been laid off. I do hope that if you have 20 unpaid days, that they are scattered & not all at once. I would think that would be a lot easier on your budget, paying rent, food, insurance, power bills, gasoline, et al, as you can cut back a little bit, but no paycheck at all would be a lot harder! Anyway, my thoughts are with you. And, "what goes around comes around", so may good things should come your way!

I think they robbed Peter to pay Paul in this short-term state budget game. They helped the K-12 schools, in the short term (but all of the schools around here are budgeting big cuts for next school year.) On the other hand, they robbed from Paul, as in higher education, like the big state schools; that will result in much bigger tuition increases for fall than we have previously seen. That's a great big ouch for parents of college kids, such as us--we have a son at Mich Tech.

This governor has made a number of budget deals over the years that have been very short sighted, trying to find money for the then current short term budget by taking it from income longer term. Case in point, trailer licenses: she got a lot of money for one short-term budget by making them permanent trailer licenses, but now she no longer has the annual trailer license fees coming in. That money is just lost for now & the future. And then there is her trick of moving up the due date of state property taxes; that little game is really hurting K-12 schools now, as they had to delay their property tax income, instead of getting it from the summer property tax bills. That did not help the state, and it hurt K-12 schools, overall. And, those are just the tip of the iceberg. Ouch!
