Dollar Bay school was the subject of the Pasty Cam on this day in '99, where you could see the new leaves beginning to emerge. Plants and trees are definitely farther along this year... and those friendly black flies are back.

Good morning! Planned on going fishing today but the wind is blowing about 25 miles an hour so I guess that's out. Might as well plant some flowers. Have a great day everybody.

Just a note to remind you all to keep your cars locked, yes even on your own driveway. If it can happen in our town, it could happen anywhere, as our town has generally been considered to be one of the safest around. (My husband left our car unlocked on our driveway last night because well this is Midland, & there was nothing in it, according to him, so nothing could possibly happen.)

Something woke me up about 2:40 this morning. Before I could get back to sleep, I heard a car horn. That made my two little dogs bark their heads off. Thank heavens for my little watch dogs, as they scared the intruders off. Someone, likely teenagers, had gotten into the car & rifled through the armrest (which is big enough that it could hold CD's, an iPod, cell phone, garage door opener, etc, which are the things that have been taken out of cars recently here in town) & through the glove box. They left the arm rest & glove box open, probably because my dogs scared them off. Apparently they did not take anything, but they could have gotten my name & address, et al off the car registration & proof of insurance. And, they could have used our garage door opener to open the garage door & gain entry to our home. We were very fortunate that we have our little dogs, & that the intruders were klutzes & accidentally hit the car horn. (Our other car & the boat are in the garage, so they did not get to them.)

I hope my husband has learned a lesson, but I'm not going to hold my breath. He thinks that it's too much trouble to unlock the car, especially in Midland...

Speaking of black flies: Check out the Soo Locks website https://webcam.crrel.usace.army.mil/soo/

Those surely look like black flies in one of the pictures.

It is nice to see "our" school here today. It looks lke it did years ago except the swings went crosswise in the playground. The huge old trees are still there providing shade for the kids. This picture brings back a lot of good memories.

Sorry to hear what happened to you during the night. I use to live in Merrill, we never had that problem there either.........but who knows now.
I am glad I live in the U.P. where I am at we don't have to worry about that! At least where I am anyways!

Jarmo--My husband, who watched part of the game (I went to
church) said Nash was amazing. As a Finnish-American living in
Canada, I often find myself cheering for Finland. That way I don't
get in trouble with either my American family and friends or
Canadian colleagues. Finland may be a small country, but it's
mighty. I still have my Finnish Olympic hockey jersey from the
1980s. I love it!
