Susan Hooker headed out to the Houghton Breakers after the storm last week to see what the winds and water had done there and look what she found just opposite the Coast Guard Station. That is just amazing when the wind is spraying the lake water and it is so cold that it freezes before it gets a chance to run off of the marker like that. I especially like the display towards the middle of the marker that looks like it could be the tail feathers of a large bird! For a perspective of how far inside the channel entrance this iced up marker is, I've included a previous shot taken by our "eye in the sky", E. Neil Harri, along with a zoomed in view of what I think is the same marker. The waves must have been crashing and splashing big time to get this far into the channel!

Best wishes,

That is pretty cool, but we have had enough ice. Lets get spring back.

Where were these pictures taken??
Is that the Bootjack entry???
I have never seen the aerial shots---fantastic.
Happy Spring.
Still cold and snowy here in Ohio. Burr.!!

Dorothy,
I think it is the Houghton and Hancock breakers. Not 100% sure but the spot on the right looks like the beach area on the Houghton side.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, April 9, 2007 - 11:27 am:

That is a fascinating ice/wind sculpture! Thank you, Susan Hooker, for going out there to take the picture in less than spectacular conditions, at least for this time of the year. I always love E. Neil Harri's great picts from the skies giving us different perspectives on things, especially of the Portage, but also all of his aerial photos! And thank you, Mary, for featuring them today!

You know what they say about April: It comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb. That is APRIL they say that about isn't it?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, April 15, 2007 - 07:57 am:

No, Greg, I believe is has usually been in reference to March.
