My wife has a delightful shoebox full of old penny postcards, from which we have shared on these pages for various holidays. I don't think Easter greetings have ever graced the Pasty Cam, so I took a little time this morning to scan a few.

The tattered 1911 postmark on the first one brings word that "Potatoes are going up - Egg down". Perhaps preparations for a sunrise breakfast? The second card (in portrait mode instead of landscape) has a sparkly material painted on its face, and the message on back begins... "Just think what you are missing, all this snow and outside cold". (Note its southerly destination of the Great Lakes unit in Chicago).

The last item is a mystery. It's a raised embossed design, printed in Germany, identified as a post card in several languages. Somebody stuck a stamp on, then forgot to actually use it. Almost a hundred years later, it wouldn't get very far with that much postage, which goes up to 26 cents next month.

It has finally stopped snowing here in the Copper Country. We've been hammered since about last Tuesday, receiving more accumulation in this Spring storm than we saw in the entire winter. No Easter egg hunts in these parts.

Blessings to you and your family on this Sonrise morning. Have a good week :o)

Love the postcards! Happy Easter to all my pasty friends!

Happy Easter all!
Wow...postage 26 cents next month?? ;-) I wish it was going to be that!! Somehow I think that is a typo. I think it is suppose to be going up to 43 cents next month; or something close to that.
Best wishes,
Renee in AL

As a child, one of my pal's grandmother insisted that potatoes had to be planted on Good Friday. Happy Special Easter celebration to all.

Good Morning All. I hope everyone has a very Happy Easter!

I heard on various news channels last night that the UP got 4 to 5 feet of snow in this storm! That's incredible! But then, most of the US is much colder and wetter than normal for Easter weekend. Yesterday, I even saw pictures of bluebonnets (Texas's state flower, a wildflower that only blooms for a week or two at this time of the year) near Austin with ice & snow hanging off of them in Austin's newspaper. I can't remember that ever happening before.

Happy Easter everybody! I didn't even know that postage was going up yet AGAIN!!! This is getting ridiculous!

Oh well, enjoy the day everybody.

Well at least You should soon be able to buy a "forever" stamp, which will remain valid (for the first ounce) regardless of any future rate increases.

And the new rate for additional ounces is actually going down to 17 cents from the current 24 cents.

OOoopppss 26 cents for a postcard. Wow!! I remember the days when a letter was 8 cents and postcards were a penny.
Best wishes,
Renee in AL

A Happy and Joyful Easter to all our friends and relatives in the UP...

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Sunday, April 8, 2007 - 10:55 am:

Have a Joyful and Beautiful Easter everyone. The first postcard looks like it could be the work of some cake decorator!
If you are going to be out and about, be careful driving. God Bless everyone.

I am so fortunate to have some copper postcards my grandmother had sent my mother at Christmas time about 1930,with the copper trimmed envelope. I had it framed several years ago. Some day I'll be able to scan things and show the pasty folks. Happy Easter everyone.

Happy Easter from very cold and snowy Ohio.
Its more like Christmas here than spring.
Looking forward to some warmer weather in the next few weeks. Weather forecast still calls for snow and cold temps. for next week. Yikes. The robins are not happy!!!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Sunday, April 8, 2007 - 12:50 pm:

A Joyful and and Happy Easter to all!

Renee, some of us remember when first class postage was 3 cents! Of course I'm not sure what I had for breakfast this morning!

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Sunday, April 8, 2007 - 01:41 pm:

Thanks Charlie for the old postcards, I really enjoy them. If I can send a postcard that gets hand delivered anyplace in the U.S. for 26-cents then that's a real bargain.

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Sunday, April 8, 2007 - 02:43 pm:

That's hand delivered by an agent of the United States Government, too!

By Tania Mihelich (Tania) on Sunday, April 8, 2007 - 07:12 pm:

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, April 8, 2007 - 08:19 pm:

Thirteen years late...
I was curious about the Cyrillic characters

In Russian it translates to "Open Letter".
Interesting translation for "Post Card".
Quite literally the opposite of "Closed Letter".

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, April 18, 2022 - 09:55 am:

Happy Easter.
