It was quite a first day of Spring in 1999, as the Pasty Cam headed up the hill from Eagle River. Today is the vernal equinox, the day the sun is directly over the equator and moving our way.

Good morning it is a dull and moist day here in Berkley, Jimmie the fat white cat is completly covering the heat register I don't think he is planning on moving for most of the day. I remember when I was a kid dressing on top of the floor register in the mornings, also the frost on the windows that you could draw pictures in. Looks like there is a huge blackout in Detroit a lot of schools have no power. I haven't been up long enough to hear the news talking about it. The bottom of the picture is showing that a lot of schools are closed for lack of power.

I'm responding to a Cam Note, but I figure that will get us over our quota of 2 a day over there, so I'm putting my response here.

Our next door neighbor is going out of town this weekend, presumably for the week. He has asked my son to snow blow his sidewalks & driveway if we get snow while he's gone. Even though that will be spring break week for my younger two sons, I figure that means that we won't have cold weather or snow, as it seems that when this particular neighbor leaves town & wants his stuff taken care of, it normally means warmer weather! :-) Maybe that's a little good luck charm?

Freezing rain here(Hillsdale County) this morning. I am hoping it warms up real quick as the trees are starting to get an ice build up on them. I hope you do not have ice where you are.
There is a tranformer problem in the Detroit area that is why no power/no school.

Looks like Trollperson and RCW tied for first post this morning! I was still in bed at 6:11 today. Wish I was still there. Rain is coming down sideways outside. Good day to stay in bed with the covers over your head.

By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - 11:51 am:

Hey Badkid If my memory serves me, I think the coal yard was near where the "tank farm" is now.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - 12:28 pm:

Danielle, you may want to check Copper Country Reflections or the archives at Tech. Both should have some photos to help you out....

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - 01:53 pm:

Danielle, I have a friend that I am pretty sure has some pictures and info. I'll e-mail him and ask him to respond to you question. He is RCW. I remember it too but I don't have pictures. Fran

It is such a beautifull first day of Spring here in E.TN.63* and we have had many nice day's since the storms we had when March came in like a Lion.
The garden is already seeded with cucumbers, cantalope, lettuce, onions, and watermellons. We had a mild winter with only a dusting of snow about two times and the lowest temp I remember was +18* The Dogwood trees are in bloom along with many other's,yellow flowers every where you look.I haven't been up to Cades Cove in a few weeks, but soon it will be full of tourist's as it is such a wonderfull place to take it all in,you just can't take anything with you like the Ramps that grow so wild there. You got to find a roadside stand that sells them.
Have a nice day you all,all is fine here in K-Town.

By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - 04:12 pm:

hey paul,

i checked tech's archives online and came up empty. i even tried to google it and just found something that was mentioned on this site a few years ago. i did a post on boatnerd.com also thinking someone there would have some info.

thanks.

I discovered this site today and really enjoy it. I was born in the U.P. (Covington) and lived in Michigamme, then Ishpeming, until I moved with my husband to his home state of Ohio. (I am STILL a Michigan football fan)! We go back every year to visit with relatives and enjoy the 4th of July at Michigamme. I just read David's post from Tenn. and it makes me want to go back there. We've been to that area many times, and our favorite drive is through Cade's Code. We have a nice 75 degrees today so I hope our spring is here to stay.
