Eight years ago, the Pasty Cam featured the Copper Harbor Lighthouse. There are, as you probably know, a number of lighthouses in the Keweenaw and the Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau has a listing with links to web sites (if they exist). And if lighthouses light up your life, the Keweenaw Star features a lighthouse tour each July.

I was considering setting up the page this morning so "You Light up My Life" played in the background, but better judgement (or coffee) kicked in.

First PostGood morning! OOOHHHH one of my favorite lighthouses!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, March 19, 2007 - 08:23 am:

Good Morning! I love the Copper Harbor lighthouse, too. But then, I have one of the many the special MI lighthouse license plates on my car. :-)

Good Morning a dark and nasty day in Ohio. I couldn't believe 99 a gallon for gas I paid $2.31 yesterday and usually it is much more in the upper than here. Have a good day!!!!

Everytime I hear a reference to "You Light Up My Life" it takes me back to when my three older daughters (now in their thirties) used to sing themselves to sleep with that song: They sang, "You give me soap to carry on . . ."!

Thanks for the picture of this lighthouse. My wife's people, the Vincents, leased it as a summer place for many years. Have spent many funand peaceful hours there.

Wonderful, Marsha.

In the same vein, when driving past the Chevy dealer one day with my son, he said, "Why do they call it a dealership?" I said, "Cause 'deal' means to sell. They are selling cars."

He looked at me like I was nuts, but said no more. Later, I saw a paper he had written where he had to give verbal directions. He wrote: Go past the deership.

Hello Copper Country residents - We need books!

The annual MTU Friends of the Van Pelt Library Book Sale is set this year for Friday, April 13 from 10 AM to 4 PM in the MUB Ballrooms. First of all, however, we need more books! Is it time for some early spring cleaning? Do you need more room on your shelves? Is your office closing in on you? Donate your books to the FVPL Book Sale. Book donations may be dropped in the collection box in the entry of the Van Pelt Library or at the Circulation Desk. Larger donations will be picked up - contact Dana Richter (dlrichte@mtu.edu) or Eloise Haller (haller@pasty.com) to arrange pick-up.

If you want to pick up some treasures at the sale, consider joining the Friends - members of the Friends will be able to shop at the pre-sale, held on Thursday, April 12 from 5 to 7 PM in the MUB Ballroom. During the pre-sale, memberships will be available at the door.

All proceeds of the FVPL Book Sale benefit MTU's Van Pelt Library. For more information, visit our web site, http://www.lib.mtu.edu/friends/friends.htm

That was back in 1999. Now it is $2.59 at that Holiday Gas Station.

Weather just teaches a lesson about enjoying while it lasts here: On blooming forsythias and magnolias, heavy snow is falling, with sub-freezing temps and snow expected for the rest of the week.
Time to bring out the ski - again.

Can anyone tell me which of the following places would be the best to stay at in August. I like to be as close to Lake Superior as possible and plan to explore the Baraga, L'Anse, Aura, Pt Abbaye, Skanee, Huron Bay area. These are the possibilities: Best Western in Baraga, Carla's in Baraga, Aurora Borealis in Aura or L'Anse Motel in L'Anse. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, March 19, 2007 - 03:08 pm:

You can email Tracey at Baraga County Tourist & Recreation Area (bctra) for tips. She's very helpful. My cottage is on Keweenaw Bay in Aura.
Don't forget to go to Silver River Falls in that area, on Skanee Road.
